Wing's has been around for a long time, and has always been a family favorite in our household. As a result of it's age it can appear a bit shabby inside since the owners haven't been inclined to remodel the place over the years. If you look past the dated interior you will find delectable Chinese food that is served in generous portions. We ordered the beef with snow peas, fried rice, vanilla prawns, and won ton soup. The beef was so tender and lightly flavored and the snow peas still had a crisp snap in each bite, each morsel was a taste of perfection. The vanilla prawns were delicately flavored and the sauce complimented the prawns wonderfully. Good food is good food, and it's why we keep coming back to Wing's year after year.

I love their fried rice, it is by far my favorite. They have great lunch specials which are not too expensive and definitely worth the price.

I have been here once but i liked it. I liked the funky atomosphere. It reminded me of a chinese I went to when I was growing up. I didn't like chinese back then but I love it now!! I went with a friend and her daughter and me and my daughter. The kids loved the rice and chow mein. I liked the broccoli beef. The beef was tender and the broccoli was crisp. The fortune cookies were fresh too. There is NOTHING worse than stale fortune cookies. UGH! I will go back and try some different dishes and update but so far, I thought it was good. The service was good too. UPDATE I got to craving chinese tonight and Wings was the closest. We went early about 5pm and got a nice little booth. The service was fast and great. The shrim chow mein had lots of shrimp and the noodles were cooked to perfection. I had mongolian beef ....tender and not too spicy...yum! The Lemon chicken was a bit tough on the outside but tender inside so still tasty. The staff were friendly and even gave my daughter some extra cookies. So sweet! So what if the wallpaper is peeling a little and it's not the swankiest place.....good food and lots of it is good with me!

Went with a big group, who advance ordered. Staff was pleasant. The wait for the food was actually a while, considering how far in advance I think the group was booked, but the food came out steaming. I don't know what I ate, so I shall try to guess: - shortribs: flavorful, but they aren't ribs they are like lemon chicken or something. i mean they aren't actually CHICKEN but they are like, prepared as if they were lemon chicken, so they aren't on the bone and they aren't in that succulent carmelized red tangy sauce i'm used to for chinese ribs. - vanilla prawns: this i asked the name of because i was scared. and i had a right to be. this dish is sickeningly sweet, I'm sorry, there's such a thing as too sweet and this was it. - veggies and meat on top of a crunchy nest of noodles: okay. not really special. wouldn't order again. - tofu in red sauce with veggies: I think this was fried. it was good. - sweet and sour prawns: at least, i think that's what they are, the sauce is negotiable, and the prawns were giant round puffy mounds. burned my mouth but oh so good! - steamed veggies: they were steamed veggies. nothing more, nothing less. they were fresh and large. i'd say the standards are probably good here but honestly, I don't think this is like, chinese food i'd hanker for in the south bay. like if i close my eyes and go: please transport my tastebuds to shanghai, beijing, or hong kong. let my mouth sizzle with the belly of the carp, may my lips slurp upon the succulence of egg noodles, bring my soul forth with an orgasm of pungence and spice ... this is not the food i'd turn to to inspire me. you will blow your mind over in Milpitas by Ranch 99, or over by Wolfe Road by Ranch 99 - basically where all the chinese people congregate to eat. and um ... while dining here I saw no chinese people eating. interpret as you may. they do give HUGE succulent shrimp though in their dishes (seriously, if you order anything, order shrimp) and almond cookies with their fortune cookies. my fortune cookie came with THREE fortunes. so i'm special. NYAH! -------- Update! Got a list of what we ate: 1. Vanilla Prawns (2 orders) - meh 2. Schwan Spicy Soup - meh 3. Vegetable Deluxe - meh 4. Salt Baked Prawns - YES 5. Mongolian Beef - pretty good 6. Spare Ribs (3 orders) - meh 7. Mandarin Shrimp and Canton Chow Mein - meh 8. Hunan Chicken - YES 9. Black Mushroom Bean Curd - YES

I have had a few things from Wings but all as takeout. The food seems pretty fresh and good. I've had a few pork dishes, vegetable dishes, chicken dishes, and egg rolls.

Their delivery service is a win for me! Since I live near the area, when they say 30 minutes its more like 15. The fact that the food is delicious and doesn't leave that "after-effect" feeling is great too! But most of all I love that their food isn't too heavily seasoned. They also have a great selection. So you have plenty of options. And because I'm actually quite picky, I love the fact that they have a white-meat option when it comes to their chicken dishes.

I love this place. First off, it has been a Japantown staple for many years (my grandparents went there, so atleast 40 years). The food and service have remained consistant for all that time. The boothes are a bit dated, but for me this only adds to the ambience of the place. Velvet, asian patterned wall paper, out of commission waiter "call" buttons, all these things for me, add to the charm. The food is oldschool chinese food. If your looking for that yummy delicious, brings you back to your child hood chinese food, this is the spot. I can highly recommend the following dishes: Chinese chicken salad Sezuan shrimp Honey shrimp Beef chow fun Any of the chow miens Mongolian beef Sezuan spareribs These are amongst the dishes that I have had and they are absolutely awesome. Good service, good food, reasonable price. A+

My husband and I have been here a few times and we love it.Now its nothing special the food is ok but I love the brothal look of the place it makes me giggle. The red wall paper with the beaded booths and dark interior just sets a mood of sneaky mischievousness. I love going here its great american style chinese food is what I look for seeing as my authentic chinese pallette is where i turn my nose up...lol chinese eat some weird things but I think thats why they live so long they found the secret. great place I would take friends here.

meh, is really all i have to say. I had the lemon chicken lunch special and the hot and sour. The hot and sour soup got some good reviews, but it really was not that good. They put hella meat in it (i like just tofu), the taste was a little off and it definitely could have been spicier. I have to say they do give you HUGE portions, but I mean . . . can you really eat a lot of something that's not that good. The servers are super friendly and nice. Very fast too. Cute place too =] I might come here again, but probably not.

I have been craving some whatever type chinese food since I had moved here about a year ago. I didn't know where to go and this place seemed to have pretty good reviews and was close by. I was a good first time experience. I did take out and they said it would take about 40-50 minutes, but they came within 30 minutes. The fried rice was great, it didn't have the frozen vegetables. Plus in my books, the shrimp in lobster sauce was okay but I would try again. And the soup was good as well. I would recommend their take out.

After living in the neighborhood for two years and being thoroughly disappointed with Sushi Kazoo at the other end of the block, my fiancee and I decided to give Wing's a try. I was raised on "bad" Chinese food as a treat for being "good". In my rural hometown there was this place called "Louie's" where they knew us and would always bring us potstickers for free and attempt to chat with us in broken English. The food was probably a lot greasier than it needed to be, but they'd taken careful steps to American-ize their menu and make it tasty. When I moved to the soul-sucking Silicon Valley to work at a soul-sucking dot.com company, I had no idea that I would pine nights away trying to find real "bad" Chinese food to fill in the empty places of my soul. There are plenty of Asian-fusion places to try out with bad lighting and odd chunks of glass artwork, but I hadn't yet found what I'd grown up with. Wings is.... 90% of what I was looking for. It's got funky cheap (old-school) panel-divider walls making the dining area into maybe 5 individual "rooms" separated by screens of bead curtains (!), and the obligatory (free) Chinese zodiac calendar from 1985. On a downside, it was about 75 degrees the day we visited on an early summer evening, and I'm sure it was at least 10 degrees warmer in the second-story dining area. Service was prompt and the tasty food was obviously cooked the second we ordered it (even if the noodles were fried in oil that was a little burnt), and not to mention the size of the portions! Wait, I just did. Well... let's put it this way one $20 meal easily provided 3 meals for my fiancee. No, you probably wouldn't bring a date here to impress them, but it might be an awesome place to visit after a few drinks!

Blech. Didn't take my order right, served me what seemed like corn syrup chicken knuckles fried in acidic grease and then overcharged me. FAIL

I only get take out but the dinner box comes with soooo much. Guaranteed for lunch leftovers and maybe dinner the next night. I like the Kung Pao Chicken and the Sweet & Sour Pork. Great value for the amount of food you get and it's usually ready in 10 minutes.

Went to check this out because of the high ratings on Yelp. Also, it looks like a San Jose institution and has been around forever. That said, I wasn't very impressed. The Chinese food is just OK. Good but definitely nothing special. The service was nice and friendly, but the decor is tired. I suppose you could consider the old-school American Chinese restaurant feel part of its charm, though. It's a funky friendly place.

This review is based on their food and delivery service only. I ordered the veggie chow mein and egg rolls. Pros: -Big eggrolls with crunchy cabbage -I got almond cookies AND fortune cookies! Bonus! -Price not bad -They deliver! Hard to find chinese places that do that. The man that delivered was cool. He asked for only a $1 for gas, I gave him $2. Yeah I know it's weird, but he asked for that in place of a tip. Cons: -Eggrolls were greasy and bland -Veggie chow mein SUPER bland -$3 charge for delivery Bottom line: I'm sure there are tastier things on the menu, but I had to feed people for a meeting and couldn't be my adventurous self. If I don't find another Chinese place that delivers, I may come back here, but by default only.

Since moving to the area, I had been wanting to visit this spot. Maybe I set my expectations to high? I dunno, but I wasn't impressed...not disappointed, but not feeling like "I gotta come back tomorrow!" I don't know about you, (and I will preface this by saying this is pre-internet, and strictly yellow pages searching, or by pure happenstance) but I haven't found too many Chinese restaurants here in SJ (not Cupertino, Milpitas, I'm talking 'bout in East Side or Downtown). Yes there's Chinese restaurants but they're not really Chinese restaurants if you can feel me. To me they're Vietnamese who are running Chinese joints and it's just not the same (similar to when I went to a Mr. Chaus and the people running it were Mexican)...just my opinion. One of the few I know (or think I know of) like Golden Buddha (up by Aborn) are from my far away past and don't know of their current status in regards to who's running it. Anywho, my girl and I ordered vanilla prawns, veggie chow mein, and string bean chicken. I must add all served very quickly to us too. Overall the meal tasted good but a bit oily for our tastes, especially the next day after sitting in your fridge. I know Chinese food isn't considered health food, but it was much oiler than I prefer. Random stuff: we had 5 different servers which was interesting and all very nice. Pluses: unlimited free tea, and before your meal you get free soup and at the end you get an almond and a fortune cookie. That's goodliness in these hard times. I guess the price was okay, it's not like there's competition all around and it is in Japantown. I think our meal cost $40 (tip included). What I liked in the first place was the setting of the restaurant. It had a nostalgic feel to it from the outside which drew me, and once inside, you could envision yourself maybe eating there when SJ was still orchards and such. At the same time though my girl likened our private booth to that of a garage because of the lighting and the oldness of the walls and fixtures. Yeah, maybe they could do some touch up with the decor a little bit. It would be nice if they could play on the strength of the restaurant's vintage character. In the end I think I have more good to say about Wings than bad, so we'll probably be back.

Wing's...How did they come up with that name? It's a cute, run down looking chinese restaurant. I like how they have little dangley things and privacy booths. Love the food and that it's conveniently located in Japan Town. Who woulda thought Wings would be yummy for my tummy. huge portions . the Vanilla Prawns are gooooood here. and the hot n sour soup. Wing can I come back for more!!!

I went to Wing's for a friends bday back in September, and I must say that the reviews on here are pretty interesting I must say. As a Chinese man, the food is eh. The food was not bad, but I wouldn't come back here again if I want to eat Chinese food. My friend order the hunan chicken which I wanted to try but to my disappointment it was not even close to hunan style chicken but instead it tasted like peking style spareribs. I must have a thing for foam cups because they gave us foam cups and not regular glass cup for our water. Come on now, lets get real here people, foam cups are bad for the environment in the first place and you are a restaurant and not a fast food joint! You are NOT suppose to serve some customers foam cups and a few other glass cups! Just RIDICULOUS! Besides all of this, the service was good. I give this place a 1.5 Star Rating

I love Wing's. Always have good experiences here. Food is good too. It's hard to find good Chinese in the SJ area, I know you can drive out to Milpitas or Cupertino, but that's a hassle. Yeah, it's Americanized, no, you don't see many asian patrons... 'cept for myself and my buddies... LOL, I guess this place becomes official now. Anyways, the point I was getting at is, if you want real AUTHENTIC, then buy a plane ticket to China. Same goes for all the other "ethnic" foods. Anyways, the older lady is really nice and gives me a motherly/older sister feel. Also, when me and my buddies order to go they offer us drinks & cookies. I recommend... salt baked prawns or salt and pepper shrimp... dunno what they call it here and kung pao shrimp.

This is one of the only chinese restaurants in town that i am always satisfied with. It's been around for years and will probably be around for more years to come. I've always liked the hole-in-the-wall dingy feel of the place and the privacy of the tables...lol. Staff is really nice, food is yum-o.....the hot and spicy soup is delish!! yay!

  • Yo U.

The staff here are lovely and solicitous, but the food is not quite to my taste. In particular, it seems that the cooks in the kitchen had too heavy a hand with oyster sauce in the beef dish that I tried. I prefer the taste of beef to shine through. (To be honest, the sauce was pretty disgusting.) The premises are dire and need to be renovated immediately. Dated, I don't mind, but dirty and unkempt? That's not on, mon vieux!

YUM YUM YUM!!! We moved out of the downtown area but still come to Wings for our Chinese food. Lemon chicken is awesome, the coconut prawns make my mouth water just thinking about them, the chicken salad is tasty, the food has NEVER been a disappointment. I have been here with large parties and for an intimidate dinner and we will be back! If you're in a hurry, order over the phone and it will be ready for you to pick up and take home to enjoy!

I am usually hesitant when going to Chinese food restaurants. On our first time here we were warmly greeted. Now this place has become one of our staples when we want to go out. Not only do they remember what you like and don't like, they make useful suggestions on new dishes. I am partial to the mu shu pork and am not easily swayed. My partner orders the sweet and sour chicken. It is very good and comes with pineapple chunks. The atmosphere is worn and old, but that is part of the charm. It feels like you are dining in a different era, and you are. This Chinese restaurant is the longest family run Chinese restaurant in San Jose. If you are looking for fancy, you may wish to go to PF Chang's, but if you are looking for authentic food in a warm atmosphere and with reasonable prices, be sure to come to Wing's Chinese Restaurant.

I just ordered delivery from here. I got the sweet & sour pork and the Wing's chow mein. I'm from NH and I've noticed some subtle differences between west coast and east coast chinese. For example, when you order takeout/delivery in the east, you ALWAYS get hot mustard and duck sauce (a very sweet sauce made from apples). Here in the west coast, all you get is soy sauce. The pork was decent, plenty of pork, vegetables and sauce. The sauce, however, wasn't very sweet/sour. The chow mein was equivalent to what we call Lo Mein in the east. It was tasty, but could have used some more flavor and more meat. So, overall the food was just OK. However, the portions are HUGE. The single order of chow mein (which was like $8) was easily enough for 4 people. Also, my food was here VERY fast! I swear they were knocking at the door as soon as I hung up the phone.

I did take out from this place last week and was very happy with the food. Great flavor, nice portions, and the Vanilla Prawns were killer! Id go back to this place is a heart beat! I really enjoyed the food. The only thing i'd change on my order for next time is change out the Pot Stickers for something else. They were ok.

... another place I've been going to for years. A little trivia for you. Wings is recognized as the oldest restaurant in San Jose - It's been in business since the 1920's. Anyway I discovered this restaurant 25 years ago back in my bachelor days of youth. At the time my friend and I were on a quest to find the place that had the best hot and sour soup in the Bay Area and this place came in second ( behind "House of Yee" in Mountain View which is no longer in business ). No too many places put prawns in their HAS soup and I love the flavor. All their seafood dishes are excellent as well as their lunch specials and you can beat the price. The ambiance is interesting. You have to go upstairs ( and watch your head if you are over 6 ft tall ). I love siting in the booths. Each one has a buzzer you can ring for service. I recommend this place highly !!!

I love it!! The sweet iced tea is BOMB! The hot & sour soup,The Broccoli beef the stick fried rice!! EVERYTHING is soooo good!! The hot & sour soup is my fav though. If you want some good chinese food,COME HERE!! If I had 3 thumbs I'd give it 3 thumbs up yo! :]

  • Adam H.

First time I came here I ordered the lemon chicken and they brought me out a free glass of sweet tea. Before I was two sips into the tea my food came out. I was skeptical but one bite was all it took to make me a believer. The food is made incredibly fast and it's perfectly cooked. The sweet tea is delicious. Dining in is nice because of the unique design of the restraunt. My only complaint is that you have to order steamed rice separately, it doesn't come with the order. Parking is ok. No dedicated lot, but there's three places street side for you to park and a cramped lot nearby you could use. Watch your head as you walk up the stairs.

Okay, so I tried Wing's again. This time I ordered lemon chicken, vanilla prawns and potstickers. I love the potstickers, that alone is a 5 star but all the other food really needs improvement. The vanilla prawns were really battered up. First glimpse and you're thinking man these are really big prawns..ummm NO. They appear large due to the amount of batter on them. The lemon chicken had this weird yellow color that's similar to turmeric which scared me to death. Turmeric stains EVERYTHING!! I was careful not to drip any of it anywhere!! This was heavily battered as well!! I don't know if this is should be the sign that I should give up on this place. I'm still in search of a fast Chinese restaurant to get my grub on. Boo hoo!!

  • Ken N.

Um.... no, this place does not cut it for me. It's a Chinese restaurant so I never expect the best service or cleanest facilities. I just go for the food. However, the service here was pretty good. It should be though, it's so tiny. Cool thing is they packed our to-go portions in mini personal boxes so each person can take a little of everything home. Thumbs up! But as for the food, it's okay. Tried a bunch of dishes but nothing really stood out for me. I've had better. Definitely better than that fake ass Panda Express if you're looking for to-go Chinese food.

I"m a fan cuz I been coming here since I was a little girl. Over the years the taste ain't the same. Good to know the business is good for them. I tasted better. The place is run down. Haven't upgraded at all. The wall paper is faded and the velvet. the lady there loves children. She always give my children a bag full of fortune cookies.

  • Jim S.

I usually love little hole in the wall places like this but after eating here I found little to love. I went with a group and we tried 5 different dishes, each one was more horrific than the last. Nothing was cooked with finesse, meat was rubber, plates either over or under seasoned. It all tasted like it was made by someone who had not only never made these foods before but never even tried them. They ranged from bad to really disgusting. The only thing I can say for them is they give you a ton of food. Of course none of it is good so you'll just end up throwing more away. Spend wisely and go to nearby Ma's instead, nicer restaurant and infinitely better food.

amazing food, fast cooking times,, never fails sheer excellence. Im always a take out gut from here and have never ate inside, but when i go pick up my order and wait, they always give me free Ice tea, and during new years free box of chinese cookies. Wings is the best authentic chinese food in the bay area. been there for years and years and never changed.

Great food & big portions. I grew up coming here all the time, so this is literally the only chinese food I will eat. I love their chicken chow-mien, lemon chicken, and fried won-tons. Delicious. Friendly service too!

I'm surprised to see so many good reviews of this place. We got takeout from there when we lived in Japantown and it was just awful. Instead of fresh vegetables, they used canned veggies, the kind where the carrots, potatoes, etc. are cut into little cubes. And there were way too many mushy peas. Yuck.

Well, the food is not all *that* great.. But it is good enough. The stars are for the place just being around and being what it is for the last 19 years, with its sagging upstairs floor, its big neon flapping-wing business sign that sometimes operates (the wings flap) and sometimes doesn't, its screened off dining booths that we always seemed to get, its friendly Korean-Chinese owners-who always made it a point to make a big fuss and deal about greeting my Korean-adoptee son, Sam, whenever we walked into the place (from when he was an infant 19 years ago until now). OK, the actual restaurant has been around forever.. It was operating with *one* wing lit up (and *not* flapping) when i first set foot in the J-Town area as a young guy back in 1968.. It looked old then. We didn't actually venture in there until 1988. We were living in a condo there. Sam had just arrived, and so had my mother-in-law -up from LA to help with our new arrival. So we walked in here looking for a quick dinner. So there you go. I guess you could say the four stars are for sentiment... which gets us back there year after year. Funny, this is not a place to go to impress guests. It's not a place to take a date. or a business associate. or a client. Now that we live out of the area, I wouldn't make a cross-town trip to get here with neighbors or a group of friends. But whenever we go out as a family... this place still seems to be just right.

Wing's has become an institution in my life. My friends and I go there at least once a month to catch up, which is great because of the private nature of the tables. Yes, the wallpaper is old and peeling giving off a slight musty aroma, but somehow it adds to the yesteryear ambiance of this place. The food is excellent no matter what you order, and the service is spectacular. Even for big orders, they get the food to the table in about five minutes, as is their policy. Family owned for 120 years, it is a San Jose classic. In fact, I am going there today...see you all there!!

Yummm! Taking another stroll down Japantown, the bf and I decided to go with Wing's after great reviews on Yelp. The restaurant itself is upstairs (watch your head!). We were greatly with friendly smiles and ushered to our tables. We ordered the Family Dinner C: ($12.95 per person / 2 person minimum) - Sizzling Rice Soup (never had such a soup, good!) - Shrimp with Green Peas (good too!) - Kung Pao Chicken (the bf LOVED it) - Green Onion Beef (I LOVED it) - Fried Rice (very homey) The portions were huge .. we had more than enough for another two meals! Around us, a couple from Mt. View and a family from Morgan Hill drove all the way to SJ for Wing's. The restaurant has been around for 30 years ... saying a lot about the food and service; its definitely a no-frill cozy 'n homey restaurant. Plus, Wing's providing cooking classes once per month! Ask for James, he's SUPER nice. I truly enjoyed having dinner at Wing's. The staff was friendly and it felt like home! I have to say that I'm hesitant to eat out at Chinese restaurants due to disappointments that they won't match up to my grandmother's cooking; there's no disappointment at Wing's :) Highly recommended and will definitely go back again! * * * * * MORE INFO FROM THE MENU * * * * * - NO MSG!! - Closed on Sunday - Delivery (charge $3 & up) and Food To Go - Almost all entrees are under $7-$8 - 3 different Family Dinner selections - A variety of appetizers, soups, chicken, beef, pork, seafood, tofu, vegetables, chow mein, fried rice. - Box Lunch ($7.50) and Box Dinner ($9.50) - comes with egg roll, chow mein, and fried rice - choose one item: broccoli beef, kung pao chicken, beef with snow peas, happy family, sweet & sour pork, cashew nut chicken, mushroom pork, assorted vegetables

Hands down the best Chinese food around! My family and I have been coming to Wings for over 25 years. Yes, the restaurant decor is out dated; however, the food speaks for itself. The service is very fast, waiters are extremely nice and you wont have to wait long to receive your food. We order the shrimp fried rice, beef chow mein & boneless mandarin chicken (extra spicy). This restaurant is definitely worth a try!

Wings is consistently good. Lots of food, great historic building, nice staff. Even the interior hasn't changed over the years and they still have these great booths that give you your own private room. Too bad the bells don't work anymore. This is the oldest restaurant in town and I hope it never changes. Great place to bring out-of-town guests for something different than another plastic-flowers-and-chrome strip mall Chinese restaurant.

Ive been eating at this Restaurant for over 18 years. I'll be 30 in October. The food is great and the prices are worth the food. The service is always professional, friendly and very family oriented. I went to lunch there today and they always make me feel welcome. If you love authentic chinese food and quirky decor you will love this place.

I love this place! great dishes, GREAT CUSTOMER SERVICE! but watch out, there is a curb at 5th an Jackson that sticks very far out, I actually ran over it and popped a tire and cracked a rim--BE CAREFUL when rolling up to Wing's!!

Best Chinese food I've ever had! What make this place different from all other spots is the freshness of the food. The sweet and sour chicken was crispy even with the sauce all over it. Others are soggy or lack flavor. The fried rice and chow mein was hot and fresh as well. Egg roll so tasty you can tell they were made that day. They even serve you hot tea and a small bowl of soup while you get your food. The vanilla walnut prawn are like CRACK!

Eh, the food is alright--tasty and fresh, not too greasy, with an emphasis on homestyle cooking. But, man oh man, the atmosphere is chill. You sit in these semi-private booths with a beaded curtain entrance, sectioned off by thin wood veneer. The wallpaper is scarlet red, old school Chinese-style with well-faded gold imprints. Good place to talk shop or plan a murder (I could see the Sopranos being pretty comfy here if they were in the mood for Chinese).

Went into Wings on a Thursday night. I found the staff pleasant and friendly. Food was very good and place was somewhat clean. My only complaint was the rice dish. Of all the plates, for some reason the rice plate has the least amount of food. You have to order 2 to feed a group of 7. All the other dishes had plenty for everyone. I will still continue to eat at this place.

There's a lot of great food in Japantown. This hidden gem is a great place to grab some solid, greasy Chinese food. The prawns here are delicious and come in various sauces including Kung Pao and Vanilla. You can't go wrong with any of the prawn selections, but the Kung Pao is my favorite. I've tried some of the other dishes such as the broccoli beef and Kung Pao chicken, but unfortunately I'm not a fan. There's still a rather large menu for me to explore but until then, they only get 3 stars for their amazing prawns. Yum!

I happen to like tasty American Chinese food (not "traditional", just flew in from DongGuan, cut-off duck feet and fish brains) -- i mean broccoli beef, sweet&sour pork....you know.. the good stuff . I also happen to hate turtle-neck wearing trustifundians who justify their delusional self-importance by naming everything wrong with everything. The previous comment should offend a few astute yelpers, and hopefully keep your eternally raised snout out of this place. The best thing about Wing's Chinese restaurant, is that you can have really tasty Chinese food, without bumping into any of the aforementioned snobs with borrowed taste. Is the place old? yep. really old. 80 years old, and cool like that. Does it have green tea-infused mocha-frappalatte's and $20 spring rolls? nope. Fact of the matter is, If Brangelina walked out of Wing's with some fried rice in tow, every one of you "hipsters" giving bad reviews would be suddenly clogging the place, and i really don't want that. Please Wings! Keep the dowdy old furniture, great service and great food, and don't ever change your name to "Chang's".

I would have not given a star if I had the choice. I had Wings last night and ended up throwing up and feeling sick all day. Now everytime I smell Chinese, it was making me gag. Never again. That's all I have to say

We decided to try this place after reading some reviews on Yelp. It turns out to be the most unauthentic Cantonese food I've had in my entire life. Basically they were real cheap with the quality of food they used. They used the packaged noodles for seafood fried noodles and the salt and pepper fried pork was just terrible. I also tasted a lot of sugar in their cooking, which made everything taste sweet. They didn't turn on the AC at all. I definitely will not be going there again. Update: I decided to go back here and give it a second go, but this time it was carry out. The food was no better than last time, but the woman who helped me was extremely nice!

This place is near our home and we thought we would give it a try. I honesty wish we hadn't. Food was oily and the quality left much to be desired. Not sure how there are so many positive reviews.

The best thing about Wings is these funky booth upstairs that have really think wood walls and a curtain covers the entrance at head-level. It's been here for yonks and yonks and yonks and it's fun to sit in the little booth and imagine all the conversations people have had in these booths. I like the way it gives it kind of a mafia feel. The people in the booth next to us were planning an insurance scam involving a fake car accident so they could get a new car. It was kind of a white trash crime caper, but it seemed really exciting at the time to listen in, like it was some exotic crime. The Boy and I were studying criminal law and evidence at the time, so we identified different issues in their conversation like it was a bar exam question... do I hear conspiracy? The food is on the good side of your average South Bay Chinese place. They also deliver. God Bless America.

We moved into San Jose yesterday, so this was our first "official" meal, setting a standard of things to expect. Coming from Oakland, Chinese Food is really kind of gross there, so we were a bit skeptical. HOWEVER, Wings had us very pleasantly surprised. The woman on the phone was polite, quick and thorough. The service was prompt and the man who delivered our food was very polite. The food was very tasty. The chow mein isn't slimy, the meat and veggies were fresh ,the sauce was very yummy and the rice was fluffy and not over/undercooked. Definitely will be ordering from there again!

We have been picking up food for 5 years now. Even if we are in Palo Alto, we drive all the way to get chinese food here. The food is ready in 15-20 minutes. They have the best General's chicken and Chicken Fried Rice. To add to that, they are very very friendly. Everybody seems to greet you like family and will quickly change your order if you need to.

The best Chinese food in San Jose! I've been coming to Wing's for the longest time. The waiters are friendly and will remember you after a few visits. The building is on the older side, but there is plenty of space and you never feel crowded, even at lunch when it seems to be the busiest time of day. The food is prepared very quickly! The portions are nicely sized and very tasty! You'll definitely leave here full! Although I don't eat seafood, everyone I come here with orders the vanilla prawns and they love it! Make sure you have change for the parking meter- SJPD is known to be on top of the meters in this neighborhood!

This place is convenient, although, they close early, which isn't a surprise in San Jose. Right around the corner. No delivery charge because I pickup the food myself. Plus, they like me, or maybe they don't like me because I always order 10 minutes before they close. I'm a jerk. Anyway, I always get the Hunan Chicken. Good. The Chow Mein is great. They taste baked and extreme reduction of oil. Unfortunately, these are the only dishes I order. When I order something and I like it, it is my dish for all time. I could order at 730pm, walk to the restaurant around the corner, enter the doors at 745pm, and my order is waiting for me next to the register. It's chinese food, it's like that. And...AND. The food tastes great.

We decided to try Wing's since we are often in Japantown for dinner. It is a very old restaurant....built in 1925 and it looks very dated as well. The booth we were in had cracked vinyl seats and the wallpaper was peeling. It took a very long time to get service. Two of the plates were dirty, so we had to request new plates. We ordered hot and sour soup, cashew nut chicken, tofu with black mushrooms, and brocolli beef. The selection was very limited, mostly American/Chinese food. The hot and sour soup was marginal....not very spicy and more sweet. After our soup was served, it took an extremely long time to get the rest of our dishes. They made a mistake on the tofu dish (no mushrooms) so we had to send it back. It also took a really long time to get our check, and we had to walk to the front desk to request our bill. I can't figure out why they are able to draw business....perhaps because it is the only Chinese restaurant in Japantown.

This place reminds of me of those Chinese restaurants in San Francisco. They have these little cubicles with tables inside them for people to dine in them, which me and my girlfriend loved. The lights were funny. They were the "No electricity type of dim". They could not pull off the romantic feel in their restaurant. The food was average. My girlfriend ordered hot and sour soup(we came here for the soup) and "vanilla shrimp". The hot and sour soup was very flavorful. It wasn't too spicy, just the way i like it. They have shrimp in their soup too! Their vanilla shrimp was very different. I have tried a lot of "cashew shrimps" in my lifetime and this one was one of the best. It didn't taste very "dough-ie" as my girlfriend described them. The shrimp was very crunchy, but the nuts were old :/ The staff were nice, so no set backs. I would come here again if panda express is not open

My review is based solely on their Sizzling Rice Soup: it wasn't very good compared to the dozens of other times I've had this soup from other restaurants. I feel like they made it cheaply but still charge the same amount; no meat/seafood, no bamboo. I mostly remember the cabbage and the soup being a little too salty. The soup was eatable, and really not bad it just wasn't that good either.

I would have never known this was here. My sister and her boyfriend recommended Wing's after her boyfriend's dad told them about it. His dad said the last time he ate here was about 17 years ago. I guess that's pretty good knowing that it's a survivor in Japantown. As I made my way up the stairs, I thought I walked into a Bruce Lee film with the wood panels and the secluded booths separated by beaded curtains. Unfortunately, I didn't get to experience that due to the large number of people in my party. We ordered the traditional dishes you'd find when eating with family. You got your beef, seafood, chicken, pork, and a soup. I must say, the hot and sour soup is a must here. The service is pretty good here too. Not only do the fortune cookies appear at the end, but a serving of almond cookies are included as well. What a nice bonus.

I didn't dine in the restaurant, I had my food to go so I can't review that part but I can easily say though that the food was very good. The man taking the order over the phone was efficient and curtious. When I arrived I was greeted immediately. My food was brought out by a woman who couldn't have been nicer. I'm looking.forward to dining at the restaurant next time and I will give my update when I do.

I went to Wing's with high expectation due to all the good reviews, but only to find myself with great disappointment. I ordered the Seafood stirred fried vegetable dish (recommended by the waiter) and the scallop was still cold on the inside. I can be totally bias because I grew up in San Francisco with excellent Chinese food all over the place. I must say though, the booths and the whole environment of the restaurant definitely is worth the experience!

This place is my favorite, go-to Chinese restaurant! My husband and his family have been coming here for YEARS... and many of their important family celebrations have been held here. The food is good, the people are exceptionaly nice, and the restaurant itself has character! I love the booths, you could even give a ring with the doorbell on the wall if you need your server asap! There are a lot of regulars who eat here, and it seems like everyone I talk to about this place has either heard of it or eaten there as well. So it's not so much a "hidden" gem- it's a known gem!

This place is definitely a favorite of my in-laws! Anytime someone has a Chinese food craving this is the spot we go to. The place isn't super new but it has a cozy family feel to it. The service here is excellent! Our staple dishes are the sweet and sour pork, Mongolian beef, and chow mein.

mmmm .. so this place looks kinda ghetto. It is located near San Jose's Japantown. The service is here is wonderful but the food on the other hand is BLEH. My parties food was EXTREMELY salty and tasted like it was full of MSG. I would say that it is definitely better than panda express though but still .. probably never again.. you guys lose.

I usually just order takeout from Wings- but this time, I went for lunch and tried the Happy Family rice platter lunch special. It seems as though our food came out 5 minutes after we had ordered! It was hot and fresh. Big juicy pieces of chicken, beef, and shrimp accompanied by crisp green snow peas and broccolli, with cauliflour and thinly sliced carrots in a delicious brown sauce that isn't too thick or too thin. Other dishes that are worth a try are the Vanilla prawns, Crystal Shrimps, Hong Kong Style Fried Noodles, and hot and sour soup. They make excellent sweet and sour dishes as well!

This is a mom & pop establishment, and service is friendly. The dim "private" booths with dated Asian-themed wallpaper/decor make you feel like you're having a meeting with the Chinese mafia. Portions are generous. The beef chow fun, crispy duck, and hot & sour soup are delicious.

Good customer service, although I grew up loving authentic Chinese food, and this place is "iiight" for something quick. Delivery time is awesome, portions are the bombbbbbbbbbbbb, It's not terrible tasting food, but I'm into extra garlic, extra pepper...so it might just be me? The best part is they don't use MSG, and that's a plus for a Chinese Restaurant, right! You be the judge and let me know!

Now this is a GREAT Chinese place! My whole family and I have been going to Wing's since I was a little girl. They can accompany large groups of people too. When we go my Step-Dad usually orders a whole smorgasbord of plates and we down everything: from egg rolls, prawns and pot stickers to sweet and sour pork, broccoli beef and chicken chow mein. Everything is fresh and the service is excellent. They have the BEST Won Ton soup too! So fresh and filled with vegetables! They also do not cook with MSG, which is so bad for you! My parents live in San Francisco so whenever they come in to town we all have dinner at Wing's. It is also nice seeing the next generation of the Wing's Restaurant family taking over and seeing them in the business as well. This place definitely gives you a nice, warm, family feeling! Check it out and decide for yourself!

WOW! Amazing Chinese food for amazing prices! DAANG! They gave me soooo much food! My dad took me here for lunch and told me to order one of the lunch specials because they are so huge and so cheap. HE WASN'T KIDDING! Daaang :D so next time you're in San Jose, EAT HERE!

Not bad at all! Its not authentic canto food, but it'll due when I don't feel like venturing too far and just want to walk to dinner. Shrimp fried rice is basic...just rice, soy sauce, egg, and huge shrimp. Broccoli beef is tasty...not too much baking soda in the beef but the broccoli is cooked just a tad too much for me (I like mine crisp). Black mushroom pork...not just pork and rehydrated shitake shrooms...there's baby corn, zuchinni, water chestnuts, and snow peas...so I can get my veggie intake! Pot stickers are yummy...wrappers are not too thick or thin or gummy/pasty and the dipping sauce is tangy/salty/sweet all at the same time. Wing's gives you a ton of food to last for days! All Chinese food has oil, but I'm happy to report this place goes light on oil. No large oil spills at the bottom of the plates. This isn't authentic Chinese, but more of old school Canto from the 60s (so I hear bc I'm not that old and wasn't born yet!).

I was very excited to find out that Wings delivered. I was just complaining to a friend the other day about how the only food you can get delivered to you is Pizza. So I had a Saturday night, and planned on lounging around the house and order from this place. At first I was very excited. It all looked delicious. The Lemon Chicken (white meat) was great. The Beef Chow Fun was a bit lacking in the flavor department. Ever since the food settled my stomach has been in shambles. You must have a cast iron stomach to eat the food from here. I enjoyed it, but the stomach pains are not worth it.

This has been one of my favorite Chinese restaurants ever since my co-worker introduced me to it. The location is almost easily missed and parking is normally only available on the side street (free parking after 6pm mon-fri). The establishment is not big on advertisement or flashy signs, the atmosphere is very stereotypical of 1970s chinese restaurant but what lacks in ambiance makes up by the friendly staff, very reasonable prices on their menu and quick on the service either eating in or take out and not to mention the awesome quality of food. Coming from an asian family myself, I'm very picky about my Chinese dishes and this place is one of the top 3 on my list. A definite must for those who loves mom and pop Chinese food.

This place is ok. It's not what I would consider gourmet Chinese food. The flavor is just not there. I think they put too much sugar in their dishes. I really like their hot & sour soup. The fact that they deliver is also a plus.

This review is based on the phone etiquette of the people at Wings. I was calling regarding a dinner delivery and the gentleman that answered the phone was VERY RUDE. When I told him my location, he told me that they do not deliver more than 2 miles away from the restaurant and then he hung up on me. I will NEVER dine at this place. Sorry, customer service is very important.

We had our food delivered. Person on phone taking our order spoke clear English. Super friendly & made sure our order was correct. Delivery was a little slow ( Friday Nite) but well worth the wait. Everything was excellent. We ordered way too much as their portions are large. Will order from them again.

This is definitely a fav! Whether eating in, taking out or having delivery. When my sister comes from Oregon, this is the first place we head for a gab/food fest! We used to come here with our parents when we were younger =50+ yrs age! The food is great and they don't rush you-we have been there for over an hour and they just keep filling our tea cups. I have tried everything on the menu, and have never been disappointed. The delivery is fast and the foot HOT when delivered. I have noticed lately though that there have been some changes, some of the dishes have lost their "punch"-especially the chicken wings-which had a unique flavor, a little salty and sweet--now taste as though they have little or no seasoning...however, that certainly won't stop me from dining here hopefully for lots of years to come.

i only ordered takeout from here, but it was definitely the best, most non-greasy, and memorable chinese food i've had in the area. i'm usually hesitant to get chinese at all because it usually ends up being totally greasy and americanized and just making me feel like a cow. the sizzling rice soup was realllly good, i don't know how they make their broth, but it was just a little sweet and full of crisp, fresh vegetables (something i feel like i never find at a chinese place!). the broccoli chicken with white meat was also delicious, the sauce was kinda pink and different from anything i've had at a chinese place, reallllly good. all white meat, no funny chewy pieces, and tasty crispy vegetables (not just broccoli, but zucchini, as well!). the shrimp fried rice was simple, eggy, and had me shoveling mouthfuls of it after the friend i was eating takeout with went home. what really made me write this review, though, was how sweet the girl who took my order was. she was really sweet, warned me that the sizzling rice soup "wasn't like at other chinese restaurants" (aka DELICIOUS!) and reassured me that she didn't need directions to my house because she had a regular in my neighborhood. and, i hate to say this, but i really appreciated that the person answering the phone at the chinese place i ordered delivery from spoke and understood english. she made it easy on me.

i came here for take out. we had ordered vanilla shrimp, mu shu, chow mein, and fried rice. i thought this would have the generic sized portions but each order came out in its own square container (the one you get from a take out place where it has half for rice/chow mein and two spots for side dish/meat) filled up with just one order!!! the shrimp was the size of a golf ball!!! and it was yummy (the shrimp had a deep fried batter on it so the shrimp itself was smaller but still pretty big.) the restaurant has about 5 or so rooms to eat in so you have decent amount of privacy and arent watching others eat. but its a small place and i suggest take out. all our dishes were about $10 except the shrimp which was $14.

The other write-ups here give you a cross section of reviews on the food (overall, not bad) but I want to mention the interior of Wings which everyone seems to be giving a pass. Yes, the restaurant is in an old building and you must climb a few stairs to get a table. That's not Wings biggest problem. The interior is abysmal; cracked paint, peeling wallpaper, spotty floor and fusty decor are all around you. Management needs to spend some serious money and give this place a facelift if only to help with the smell, which is unpleasant at best. I have been there twice with my friend who likes it but wouldn't even consider going there on my own, it's that unappealing. And I honesly don't think I'm that fussy. If you are completely indifferent to a restaurants ambience, go ahead and try it out. But if you are even a little sensitive to your eating environment skip this place.

the hot and sour soup has prawns in it, a definite plus. Usually Chinese food restaurants use the cheapest ingredients and very low quantities of the costly stuff but this place doesn't scrimp on the shrimp. The prawn dishes were loaded with prawns and the chicken chow mein is so tasty. The service is great as well if you decide to dine in. The decor is on the run down side but it feels like you're stepping into a Chinese mafia meeting spot, real down low/low key kind of joint. I enjoyed myself and have posted their menu on my fridge...

Hands down best chinese food in San Jose. The atmosphere is really fun, and the owners will remember you after 2 or 3 visits. The Orange beef is awesome, I recomend trying it, even if you think you wont like it (I didn't think I would), be adventurous, you wont be sorry!

Now that the owners have retired and left other family members to take over, the food is not as good as it use to be. I tried to come by here a few times, but it's not the same. The people are still very friendly and because I known this place for so long, I will still come by. I miss the retired owner David, he was a crack up and would buy me a beer every now and again or some cookies to take for my family. I know you're out of the states David, but happy retirement...you will be missed!

Historic place with quaint enjoyable decor. The booths can be noisier than the main room because people talk louder in the "privacy" of their booth. Good sweet and sour pork, egg rolls, and other food. Been there a few times recently. Some days the food is overly salty. (Beer is good to drown out the salt.) Decent place for Chinese food in San Jose when other places are crowded.

Yulk! This is undoubtedly, my vote for worst Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area. I was craving some old time Chinese, the kind you used to get in a Chinese Buffet before they all became "California Super Buffet's" came to be. After reading the reviews here, I decided to bite. The restaurant is ancient, the carpet is dirty, the place smells funky, fair enough. I ordered the happy family three delights. I got some weird viscous soup that tried to be hot and sour, but tasted like Campbells tomato. The eggroll was just shredded cabbage in a wrapper, fried with stale oil and served with fluorescent red Koolaid sauce that was ice cold. The chowmein was just oily noodles, the fried rice was just that, plain rice fried with some scrambled egg. Although the meat was tasty, chicken, beef, shrimp; everything tasted like stale oil; but the portions were large. The vegetables, broccoli, cauliflower, baby corn, zucchini, were inedible. I should have had a bowl of Ramen Noodles and flushed my $10 down the toilet. That would have been more enjoyable than this meal.

My new fav Chinese place -by far wins hands down. Located adjacent to Japan town, parking is on the street. Walking up to 2nd floor, we were greeted by a smiling "table for 2"...but when we said - "to go" she promptly handed us 2 menus. The place is very different, havent seen anything like this before. Reminded me of Jackie Chan movies where they go a dark alley, up some stairs into a room filled with people talking in whispers... There are almost closed off booths around the edge of the place. When we walked in each one was occupied on a Wednesday evening, just goes to show its a popular place. Now to the food, we got the Schezwan prawns (SPICY!), pot stickers - yummy and vegetarian chow mein. While we waited she gave us complimentary (i think) hot tea. Drive back home was hard, the smell kept enticing us to pullover and just eat! I have to say 2 words about the chowmein -not greasy at all and with actual vegetables (plenty of them!). This has and will soon become our defacto Chinese take out!

Wing's is a trippy place. It's been there forever and it shows. The inside is decorated like what I'd imagine a downmarket 1970s opium den would look like. The food is just o.k. I suppose I'd characterize it as the sort of Chinese food I'd imagine would be found in a small Midwestern city where there was only one Chinese restaurant. There is certainly much better Chinese food to be found. There's only one dish I would stay is really, really good, and that's the Salt Baked Prawns. I don't think they're baked, but there's a nice spicy sort of crust and they appear to have been pan-friend with thin slices of some sort of chile. Nice They deliver and I'd give them an extra star just for that... but the food doesn't really rate more than a two.

This is your basic mom and pop place. There food is good, not the best of the best but it's still good. I love their hunan chicken and won to veggie soup! There chow fun and prawns are good! The ice tea there is too sweet for me but they have tea and water! It's not gourmet chinese food but it's tasty and has friendly service!

I have to agree with all of my fellow yelpers that this place needs some serious rennovating because it's been the same way for decades. Yes the sanitation of this place may be questionable and I don't know much about Authentic Chinese Cuisine but I've been coming here since I was in my mother's womb. I'd rather focus my attention on the food. They have the best Wonton Soup I've ever had and that is why I come here. Don't expect to be waited on hand and foot (that's why they have a little doorbell at every booth, so you can ring them if you need something). I come here to have a nice meal, I get good service from nice people, and my husband and I enjoy it.

the boyfriend and i LOVE this place! the staff is always super friendly and welcome us back every time we go, which is pretty often. it makes me sad to see bad reviews about this restaurant because we love going here. We always get the hot and sour soup which is one of their specials. wings chow mein is another one of favs as well as the shrimp fried rice, beef chow fun, and garlic chicken. everything is very reasonably priced and the portions are huge! we always take home left overs! i also love the almond cookies they give you at the end.

i'm angry at my wife. apparently she's known about this little gem since she was a toddler. tonight, she uttered the name wing's. we were trying to find a new place to eat at san jose's japan town when she mentioned that she and her parents used to go to this chinese restaurant on jackson st. she wasn't sure if the quality was still as good. she hadn't been in there for over a decade. the nostalgia alone was well worth the visit, i thought. well, having just walked out of there a half hour ago, the flavors are still fresh in my mind. i may have had the best pot stickers i've ever had. they were steamed, than flash fried so that the outside is crisp. the pot sticker sauce was really good too. soy sauce, vinegar and slightly sweetened. you must try the pot stickers. the hot and sour soup was really flavorful. served super hot. then again, so were all the other dishes. we also ordered sweet & sour pork spare ribs. probably my least favorite. it was cooked well, but the sweet & sour sauce was ordinary. chicken and broccoli was excellent. fortune cookies were served with almond cookies in the end. during dinner i mentioned to our waiter that my wife used to go here when she was a little girl. he asked who her father was and he actually remembered. he also recalled that my wife used to speak japanese... what a memory! he has been working there for 30 years. wow, how cool is that! it's great to have found a place that's been around this long and still be really good. i highly reccomend this place. and don't forget to order the pot stickers!

It's all about eating in dimly lit booths separated by walls and beaded curtains. For some reason, every time I've eaten here, I've had great conversations over pretty good Chinese food.

I have always loved this place, not much to look at but who cares, the food is great. I have fond memories of ordering lots of Chinese food on the weekends I went to visit my grandma when I was little. She always ordered the fried prawns, they are huge and very good. She would let me order what ever I wanted and I would eat until I was sick. All of the dishes I have tired are great but my favs are sweet and sour pork and beef broccoli, yummmmmmm. Wow, I am making myself hungry, it's almost lunch! Parking can be an issue since it's in Japan down and there are a lot of restaurants but drive around, it's worth it.

Simply the best Chinese food! All the individuals that work there are so very nice and too kind and the food/service never disappoints. If you like spicy, ask for very, very spicy and you will not be let down. I recommend the Kong Pao Prawns, Prawns a la Szechuan, Shrimp with Lobster Sauce with the amazing Ice Tea and Spring Rolls. If you have not tried this place...you are missing out!

This place had great food! I highly recommend the sizzling rice soup. Its not hot/spicy. But the rice platter deal is the best for the price. i can never eat everything on the plate! this is my new favorite local eatery. family owned business, very friendly and affordable.

Yummy, semi-greasy chinese food that still taste great (depending on what you order). I go here when I want chinese food. Although, the only problem I have with this place is that they keep checking on you every 5 minutes. There is such a thing as too much service. Constantly asking if things were okay and then another server comes and ask the same question. Gets kind of annoying after a while. But other then that.. foods good. Don't order Hong Kong Chow Mein... super salty.

The food here is consistently good. We live 2 blocks away from this place, and when we are in the mood for Chinese, the choice is always clear - Wings! The owner is very friendly and the service is alwyas good. We usually get our food to-go. We ate in a couple of times, but the interior of the restaurant feels run down and not very inviting.

My bestfriend introduced me to Wing's 11 yrs ago. This is the place we go to when we need to have heart to heart talks about love, life and important bestfriend conversations. We have had alot of laughs, a few tears and tons of great memories at Wing's! The food is great, tea is great, and the staff is friendly. You gotta try this place!

Service was very friendly, and the food tasted OK, but I ended up with a massive stomach ache shortly after eating... As the dining area was far from clean, I won't be going back.

First off, let me say that this is the oldest Chinese food join in San Jose. I will let you judge what that means to you. When you come in, you have to walk up to the second floor to a dining room with emphasis on privacy. As an appetizer, the won ton soup is great, as the bring you the soup and drop teh won-tons into the soup fresh and crispy at the table. Privacy is emphasised as most of the joint is booths around the outer edge complete with ringer buttons for service, which are hardly needed as the servers are on-point all the time. The place has interesting wallpaper, which over the years has been worn dwon by dipshits touching it, but the buttons still work, if you're an assholr. The beaded doors add a great effect to the room, Good portions for money. You can get family style for 6-7$ per entree, or platter style for 7-8$ that includes an entree, rice, egg rolls and chow mein. Soft drinks can cost a lot, but you should be satisfied with the excellent brewed tea that comes free, that or you're a stupid bastard and should go to PF changs.

Wings is great! What more can I say? Well alot actually. Let me start with the great service. This is a family owned and operated restaurant . If you come in often enough they remember your name. The food is great! My husband and I love their tomato egg flower soup, spring rolls, mandarin chicken, hunan chicken, mongolian beef, mandarin beef, beef with broccoli and mandarin shrimp. Their ice tea is excellent also, even though I think it might just be Nestea. You don't come here for the decor, you come here for great food and service. The best thing is that it's consistant. I've never come in and had a bad experience and we eat here often. There have been times when I've just stopped in to get an ice tea to go. I'm very particular when it comes to chinese food & Wing's hits the spot. I'd definitely recommend stopping in. Actually, writing this review is making me crave Wing's right now.

Let's face it: Wing's is not authentic Chinese food, nor is it gourmet. But there's no other Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area with the character that Wing's has. This is the kind of Chinese restaurant that middle-class families went to back in the 1950s -- it almost seems like it's in a time warp. The restaurant is upstairs. You have to climb the stairs -- no elevator access (Americans with Disabilities Act be damned!). The wallpaper hasn't been changed in decades, nor have the carpet or the furniture. But it's all charming, not disgusting. If at all possible, you should try to get a table in a booth. Each booth is fully enclosed, with a bead curtain serving as the "door" to each booth. The food itself is perfect serviceable, it's delivered fast, and it's super cheap! Despite what other Yelp reviewers say, alcohol IS available, and it's also quite cheap -- imported beer going for about $3 a bottle. So if you insist on the latest Asian fusion cuisine with lounge music in the background, look elsewhere. But for good, cheap Chinese food in an atmosphere that can't be beat, Wings is the place for you.

I'm all up for Chinese restaurants to deliver to my home it was a Friday night and my boyfriend and I didn't want to drive anywhere so we looked on yelp to see who delivers and I found Wing's. I place my order, which we ordered a lot of food. We had won ton soup, it was OK I don't think i would order that again though. Egg rolls, my bf loves egg rolls, fried rice (eh i could have stuck with the just regular steamed rice). Chow mien was good. Lemon Chicken might have been just my favorite and the Mongolian beef was very yummy and good flavors. We also ordered the mushu shrimp, I've had better, but i was craving it...they said that they would be arrive at my house in 45 min and they did. they had a handy credit card machine so I got to pay with my card and everything that I ordered was right. I would definitely order for delivery again whenever I'm craving Chinese food.

I am struggling to understand how this place has a four star average. While I feel a bit bad giving a mom & pop type of Chinese restaurant only two stars, the food was really just bad. I went there for lunch and ordered the Kung Pao Chicken deluxe lunch special. It came with bland chow mien noodles that were overcooked and soggy, plain fried rice and an egg roll with shredded cabbage. I have no problem with vegetarian egg rolls but it needs some sort of seasoning! There was no salt or pepper in the egg roll, just cabbage...nothing else. Now to the Kung Pao Chicken, it was sweet! When is Kung Pao Chicken supposed to be sweet? They use the same sweet sauce on other dishes as my friend ordered the beef with vegetables and it looked and tasted pretty much the same. I was very disappointed with this place. I was looking for an authentic Chinese restaurant close by to work and this is not it. You can totally tell that they cater people who do not know real Chinese food. The decor was also another bad thing about this place. It has textured wallpaper from the 70's and tablecloths with food stains that look like they haven't been wished in a few years. It's just very old and dated. I have to say that the service was good which is why I gave this place two stars and the portions are huge which is probably why it has gotten pretty good reviews. You know how some cheap people just love large portions regardless of taste. The servers there speak English and are fairly attentive and pleasant. However, I would never go back to this place.

I'm a big fan of chinese food, and Wing's is no different. The decor is nothing special, but I'm not there for that, I'm there for the food. Now I judge all chinese restaurants by their chow mein, and Wing's passed the test. Not too many onions, I hate those, and plenty of meat. The garlic chicken is also good. I can't think of one bad thing to say about them. Another great thing was the price. We got about seven or eight dishes, and it only came up to $59. Pretty good if you ask me. Go here, you won't be disappointed.

Came here recently To pick up the usual fried rice, chow mein, beef broccoli, etc. And they never disappoint. Order over the phone and its ready by the time you get there. Friendly people and good food. Definatley would come again and still will.

None of our dishes were too greasy. Won-Ton soup is really flavorful. The broth is up there with my favorite restaurants that serve wonton soup, but I was disappointed to see that they use canned mushrooms in it. They do the Kung Pao prawns different here than in other restaurants so I was caught off guard but they were simply awesome. Really savory/spicy sauce and crisp breaded prawns but in this dish they used real mushrooms. They should use these mushrooms in the wonton soup. Mu-shu pork was really flavorful but again they used canned mushrooms and one of the characteristics that I enjoy about mu-shu is how they shred all the vegetables, and the pork is usually from a fattier part of the meat. The pork in the mu-shu here is drier and the veggies were more julienne than shredded which gave a much crunchier texture. Furthermore, the mu-shu pancakes they use here are dry, dusty with corn starch and resemble tortillas more than the thin mu-shu pancake I like. Beef fried rice was just average. It wasn't very flavorful at all but the portion was hefty and had big chunks of meat in it. But again, no flavor in the meat either. So like most chinese restos some dishes are better than others. I found the won-ton soup here and the kung pao prawns to be delicious but the other dishes I mentioned could be better. Oh and the decor is dated and your seated in these semi private enclosures. If you're with a date it could be romantic. Dim lights, chinese food, greasy fingers, you get the picture.....

This is by far my favorite Chinese food in San Jose for the quality and quanitity of the food. So the atmospher is kinda like Big Trouble LIttle China and I hear it used to be a house of ladies of the night, that brings character. I would say that it isn't accessible for those in a wheelchair or with a movement issue ( only stairs) .. I don't know how they get away with this. The staff seemed nice and was helpeful and I LOVED there sizzling rice soup.

Took my mother here for Mother's Day, mostly because everything else was ridiculously packed, and also because I have been hearing a lot about this restaurant. It was okay.. The decor is a little outdated. The menu has what you'd expect, but I have definitely had better! No fountain drinks, they sell the soda by the can. The service was okay. Fast, not overly friendly. Paid about $38 for a party of 3 for dinner. I probably will not go out of my way to go back here.

I wasn't expecting much when my husband and I first went here, but this is seriously a hidden gem in Japantown! (Which being a Chinese food restaurant you wouldn't think, but whatever. That's neither here nor there). We got the lemon chicken, spring rolls, potstickers, and chicken chow mein, and ALL of it was delish! I can't wait to go back and try more dishes!

Wings is probably the best Chinese restaurant I've been to! When I first walked in, I thought it would look like any typical restaurant, but I was wrong. I love the decor and how it seemed like a hole-in-the-wall restaurant. The booths gave my experience a sense of privacy which also made it romantic since I was eating with my boyfriend haha. It's a good place if you want some privacy or don't want people to see your wild child misbehaving. The quality of the food is probably the best chinese food I ever had. We ordered Wings Style Fried Rice, Wing Style Chow Mein, and Hunan Chicken. The Hunan Chicken isn't as spicy as you think it is, but you can tell them to make it spicier if you wish. The best part was the end of our meal. They gave us fortune cookies and almond cookies. I never been to a Chinese restaurant that gave out almond cookies before! And I LOVE almond cookies. So this place gets extra brownie points :) Service is 5 stars. We got help from 3 different people, but they were all so kind and food came out fast. Definitely recommend going here again!

The food here is great. They have a good sized menu. All the staff is always friendly. Sometimes hard to find at Chinese food places. Parking can be tough to get sometimes. Its not a very big place but the atmosphere is good. The only bad thing I would have to say about this place other than the parking is they are a bit pricier than most Chinese food places. If they were more competitively priced I would give them another star.

Ive eatin at this place since i was 5yrs old. Im now 28, i moved away when i was 15, all i could think of when i moved back to san jose about 2yrs ago is this place. Its sad to say but when i finished eating i was so disapointed!!! Back when the owners father ran the place, we can 2xs a week! They knew us and always sat us in our usual spot. I dont know if it was the uncle or grandpa but he always was sat in the middle reading his paper and always greeted was when we would come and tell us "you back for more". i could honestly say this was the best chinse spot in san jose. Everything was made authentic. But now you can tell this place is skimping out on quality. The menu is nothing compared to how is it used to be. This place seems to be like every other americanized chinese and not authentic at all. The food is ok, sadly nothing special!!!

So you like have to walk up these stairs in order to reach the dining area. And seriously when my friend and I got up there we seriously felt like we were in a Rush Hour movie with Jackie Chan. Hahahaha its actually pretty cool because there's individual booths with curtains for you to sit in. Anyways, i tried the shrimp chow mein and got hot and sour soup with prawns(and without pork), and they were big portions for pretty cheap prices. I'f you get a lunch combo it's like 11 bucks for three items and an eggroll(the eggroll is vegetarian though). After your meal you get Chinese Almond cookies and fortune cookies for free! My fortune said "You will bring sunshine into someone's life." Hahahahah damn right you better say something nice to me you cookie.

YUMMMMMM! I have tried the Wing's Chow Mein, Vanilla Prawns, Sweet & Sour Pork, Hunan Chicken, and Fried Rice. All have been a success! I have yet to try their infamous Hot & Sour Soup... Whether it is for take-out or dine-in, I have enjoyed every bite of their food! And...even better is that their prices are reasonable! Highly recommended!

After 30+ years, I went back to try Wing's Chinese. Always going past it while dining in Japantown, I just had to go back to see if anything has changed. Nope. Other reviews will tell you about the booths, and stairs and decor. I came to see if the food was different. Just the same as I remember. I got a deluxe dinner with chow mein, fried rice, egg roll, and sweet and sour pork. I had to get this just to compare Wings against other restaurants. Not bad, not great, tasty, and ok. It was way too much food for one, so I took leftovers home. The sweet and sour sauce was a little weak (thin is a better description), but the pork was ok. The chow mein and fried rice were ok too. The egg roll was filled with cabbage, nothing else. I expected something else in the egg rolls, not just cabbage, so I was a little disappointed. I also ordered a small bowl of pork and (? I forget the veg in the title) soup. This was the best I've tasted. Flavorful and plenty for 3 people, so I took this home too. Tender pork, slices of vegetables, nicely seasoned broth. I'll go back just for the soup. I like eating at dive restaurants and Wing's certainly qualifies as one... better than one star Mr. Chau's or Panda Express for sure (although they don't have orange chicken on the menu).

I'd been meaning to try this historic, atmospheric place on the edge of San Jose Japantown, and I have to say that I was relieved to find that it's a viable, good value in a lunchtime eatery. Going up the initial flight of stairs, entering this restaurant was like stepping back in time. It's a funky, dusty, ageless place, and I went in expecting to find mediocre food at best. But I was pleasantly surprised to find that the food was good, and very plentiful, especially for the very reasonable prices. I was seated at my own oldtime booth, which was nice. It afforded a lot of privacy and had a sort of dusty, oldworld classiness about it. The waiter was straightforward, but fast and efficient, bringing tea before I ordered my lunch, and giving me a takeout box and plastic bag when I couldn't finish my lunch. There's a reason why a place like this has been around for so long, and in what is a very competitive restaurant neighborhood. I'd go back again, even with great places like Gombei nearby.

Wonderful owners! We showed up as they were closing (hoping to order to-go), they provided complementary tea, gave us home made cookies to snack on, and we received HUGE portions. The chow mein is packed with meat and the shrimp are delicious! They also deliver within 2 miles for a small fee. The outside of the building does not do the food and service justice! 5 stars!!

This place is kind of hidden in Japan town, As I walked up the steps into the restaurant judging from the decor I was not sure if it was going to be a good place to eat. I was wrong because the food and all the vegetable were very fresh and the service was very good and my friend who is Chinese said the food was very authentic. Now that I know where its at I will definitely return.

Talk about a lot of food!!!!! We ordered the family plate for 3. Before we knew it 5 dishes come out stacked full of food. It was waaay more than we could handle. They do NOT use any MSG and their food tastes great. Highly recommend this place. Oh and along with your fortune cookie you also get an almond cookie.....perfect. Has a nice san francisco feel to the place.

Wing's is a fun old restaurant. I thought the private dining booths & wooden beads were interesting. Loved the "OK Go" red velvet wallpaper ;-) But seriously, the food was great! They served the best hot-n-sour soup I have ever had. The Mu Shu Vegetable was fantastic. Huge portions at a very reasonable price.

I've always believed you can judge how good a Chinese place is solely on their hot and sour soup. Wing's hot and sour soup is pretty awesome. From the reviews, it looks like you either hate or love this place. I like it a lot. I've eaten in once, I normally just have them deliver it to me. I won't lie, my initial reaction when I frst went inside was... "Maybe I shouldn't have come here...?" The decor is old school, it's kind of dark. Way too quiet. The staff kind of stared at us... it was a bit strange. But after we ordered our food, that completely changed. They were extremely nice to us. Each of the staff (4 different people) came to ask how the food was and if everything was okay. The servings were huuuge and everything was delicious. Most Chinese places are really stingy on meat but Wing's is pretty generous. When we left, they smiled and all said thank you. Maybe it was because we were the only ones there besides another couple? Ordering, I've never had a problem. Delivery is $3 flat I believe. It takes quite a while, so order early. They'll arrive in about 45 minutes or so. The guy who delivers is always so so nice too. He doesn't speak much English but extremely grateful when you tip him. He starts bowing his head and says, "Thank you very much. Thank you! Thank you!" I have no gripes about this besides their food is a little on the oily side. (Seriously though... what Chinese food isn't?) I've had their hout and sour soup, beef with broccoli, kung pao chicken, lemon chicken, sweet and sour pork, happy family, chicken fried rice, shrimp fried rice, wing's chow mein, pork chow mein... it's all good. You really can't go wrong with anything you pick.

My husband and I have this friend that is addicted to Chinese food. He'd eat it all day everyday...I can eat it about once a month, if that. However, this place is really good. I love the little booth/room they seat you in. My kids thought that was super cool. We ordered, the fried rice and chow mein, mandarin chicken, chicken with mushrooms, kung pao and some kind of beef...it was really good. The only complaint, the food was coming out faster than we could eat it, and we were quickly running out of room on our table. But, hey...we have 4 kids...we ordered a lot of stuff!!! Don't like that the drinks aren't free re-fills, but hey...with all that sodium, I guess I need the water anyways. Every single dish was great and came out super hot and fresh. The chicken with mushrooms was off the hook, and the mushrooms were fully cooked, but not all mushy and gross...SWEET! We'll be back for sure!

I was scared to try this place because of what a few people told me. But I was craving something spicy and wanted Chinese and they deliver so I figured "why not?" Interestingly enough, Wing's is the restaurant where my parents first tried Chinese food for the first time in their lives, over 30 years ago. They lived in a crummy apartment in the area and wanted to try something new in America and this is where they went. Well, they have pretty much been going here ever since. Ironically, of all things I have inherited from them, that include a penchant for bad fashion, strong affinity for booze, and my killer good looks, I am most thankful for them passing down the love of this restaurant. It is without a doubt, one of the best Chinese places in San Jose. Their menu is varied, delicious, and totally affordable. They also deliver within the area. Oh yeah, apparently, they do not use MSG. How awesome is that? My favorite choices on the menu: hot & sour soup, wonton soup, kung pao prawns, Happy Family, almond chicken, and Wing's fried rice. Anyway, if you want to go to a place that serves quality Chinese cuisine, with a nice staff, and at an affordable price, then head to Wing's. Maybe you will see me there, or even my parents, looking fly in our bad outfits (and maybe even reeking of booze). Now that's hot.

So, my friend and I went to Japantown last week specifically for some ramen. Or, as a back up, sushi. Because you know, when we're in Japantown we should try to keep it Japanese. And we went hiking all over Castle Rock for 4 hours prior to this food run, so we've been thinking and hoping for some good food for quite a while. Of course, little did we know (remember) that Japantown has a little tradition where they like to...um...close up shop. In the middle of the day. Awkward. And leads to a couple starving people (ie my friend and I). So, I pulled out my little droid eris and thanked my lucky stars for having installed Yelp's Android app. I found Wing's and my stomach instantly morphed from craving for ramen to craving for some fried rice. When we got to Wing's, I thought, what a nice attempt at pretending to be a traditional Chinese food restaurant. Of course, I wasn't delusional enough to believe Wing's could be a Chinatown-like (real) dim-sum-serving restaurant. I know better. So I expected less. Thank goodness for my street-wise experience because when I saw those stairs leading up to the restaurant, and eventually saw the vast empty tables and dark walled off booths, I probably would have left the sketchy restaurant if it weren't for my empty stomach and new found craving of Chinese food. But, in the end, I did enjoy Wing's. Of course, I'm not entirely sure what was better, the actual taste of the food or the joy my stomach sang to me for finally feeding it. Like everyone said, the portions are HUGE especially for the prices you pay. They will not disappoint the hungry, the bigger than normal, and the ones who like to split their plates with someone else. Also, the almond cookies are a plus because I don't really like fortune cookies. Service was great, but my friend and I were the only ones there so...yeah. I wish I had gotten the potstickers, but I was satisfied with my deluxe plate. If I ever find myself un-readily starving for Chinese food, I will definitely go back to Wing's.

This has got to be the most delicious Chinese Ive ever had. Im highly critical of how a Chinese Restaurant does its chow mien or fried rice. I ordered the chow mien and it was perfect. I did not have to pick up the soy sauce once. My boyfriend and I also ordered the mandarin beef. Ahhhh delicious. The way that they fry the beef gives an amazing mouth feel. We also go the chicken salad which had a great dressing. I am now addicted to the almond cookies they serve at the end of the meal. All the staff was very friendly. They are very quick and serve the food at lightning speed. Its great to have a restaurant that has been in San Jose since 1925. We dont have very many old school places around the area. My only issue is that because the Restaurant is so old it could really use some redecoration/ remodeling. There was some unnecessary clutter in the corner of the dining room. On the other side of the restaurant, theres very cute private booths. Over all I was very happy with my experience and will be coming back soon.

My roommate and I took a trip down to Japantown for Chinese food...weird right? It's like going to foreign country and getting McDonald's. Well, hearing "RAVE" reviews from another roommate, I thought to myself..."eh...what the heck! Let's do it." Smirking still from the neon lit sign out side, we headed up stairs to where a short 5'6" guy like me almost hit the ceiling block above the stairs. MINUS ONE STAR! We sat down by the window, where I admired the very ornamental red and gold wallpaper. My roommate pointed out the door bell buzzers on the wall with the coat hooks nearby. I wonder what this place used to be...(Cough: Brothel) Excuse me, I have a bad cough. MINUS ONE STAR! As I ordered our spareribs for our family style dinner for two, my roommate spoke to the waiter in Cantonese to order some vegetables. The waiter simply cut him off saying, "I don't understand that dialect, we only speak English here." My roommate then kindly asked what fresh Chinese vegetables they had and the waiter replied with, "We don't have fresh Chinese vegetables. Only 1% of our customers are Chinese." MINUS ONE STAR! We ended up getting mushrooms and cabbage to go with the spareribs and rice. Blah! The spareribs were super drenched in BBQ sauce. And the sauce in the "non-fresh" vegetables made me down my water cup quick. I'm thinking MSG, but no...the to-go menu had the phrase "WE DON'T USE MSG" bold enough to catch my eye. But the way it was folded, "MSG" was the only thing visible from the phrase. MINUS ONE STAR! We left and I still chuckled at the neon lit sign as it read "Chinese Restaurant."

been coming here since I was a kid in the 70s. They changed ownership recently so I am not sure if the food is the same but before the chicken wings were a favorite. Beef and broccoli is great too. They do catering and large orders so you can have trays done for your parties.

Two stars for food, one star for delivery. The food was OK - not the best, not the worst I've had. A little heavy handed on the salt but otherwise satisfied our taste for takeout. Delivery was quick and easy (we live in downtown SJ).

My roommate and I really wanted some Chinese food one night. We have gotten a lot of good recommendation for this this place so we decided to give it a shot. If you want real Chinese food, DO NOT COME HERE! I wanted to order some Chinese broccoli with oyster sauce, but the reply I got was that there is not enough Chinese people eating here so we don't carry Chinese vegetables. What kind of Chinese restaurant doesn't carry Chinese vegetables? We ended up ordering Peking Spareribs with Chinese BBQ sauce and Black Mushroom with Cabbages. The spareribs were not real spareribs, seemed like some sort of frozen meat that was thawed out then coated with BBQ sauce. The Black Mushroom dish tasted very bitter, the mushroom was suppose to be bitter, but the chef failed to get the bitterness taste out. The only reason I gave this place one star is because they gave us free soup and were really nice. However they tried to change our seats after we started eating.

Yes the place could be remodeled, But that is the atmosphere. Good value but he food is not really tasty. The soup is good but the dinner for 2 or three tasted pretty much boiler plate. I was hoping to get chop sticks but not. decent portions.

This place is uber rad for shizz! lol Cheese's, i sound like a 14 year valley girl. I can't help it tho this place just gets me all gitty. Its located in japan town in san jose. I'll admit it's a very tiny hole i the wall but i think its the cats meow! The service is really good and the food is wonderful as well. Also the price range is definitely affordable and the tea is delicious. The best part is its upstairs so if u get a window table u get to look outside while eating. Either way this place rox and u should definitely check it out!

Strolling through Japantown, but wasn't craving any sushi. We happened upon this place and decided to give it a try. Lucky thing we did. We were seated right away in our own little booth. Star for the privacy! Ordered dumplings for appetizer. Delicious. The sauce was yummy! Our entree was the green onion beef. Fell in love with how tender the meat was and how tasty the sauce was! Service was great. Even though we were in the far corner, they made sure to check in on us several times. The bill comes with so delicious fortune cookies and almond cookies, which is a bonus! Plus, if you live in the area, they deliver!!

This place is located on the 2nd floor. It is a quite place with booths where you are able to eat with privacy. The Hostess is very hospitable and pays attention to details. I ordered my food a certain way and got more than what I had expected. Very good service, prompt and with a smile. I plan on going back with some friends to dine in soon.

Great fast Chinese food! Big servings. Decent prices. They let you customize their dishes, too. Delivery is quick, and takeout is quick and easy, too. The chicken fried rice is delish. Decor and interior of restaurant are a bit dated and dingy, though. We only eat out there.

This place makes me gag. It is old, smells of mold and is generally depressing. I get vintage, and I love vintage, but I also get being clean, especially in a restaurant. I question the cleanliness of the kitchen, judging by how well they took care of the front of the house. I was scared to drink their water for the same sanitation concerns. I would never go back here.

Yuck!! We went on a Thurday during the lunch rush 12:30, and i will never co back again. ChowMein tasted like old ramen, all the food was cool, not warm or hot. The batter for the fried prawns wasnt cooked and even the $2 caned soda tasted funny. Also, the tea was room temp. I was raving about this place to my Hunny all the way up until I took my first bite.

Decent experience here with friends today. I particularly liked our seating area, a window booth overlooking Japantown and hidden away by beads or a cloth of some sort. Our food was all okay (i.e. chowmein, fried rice, wonton soup), but I'd like to try for some spicier selections next time. I think we were mainly trying to stay cheap, as well as reintroduce one of the buddies to liking Chinese food. Successful on both counts. Did have a particularly good plum wine... Fast service, too!

We love this place, so many great memories and the food is always beyond delicious. Can never get enough of this place. Last visit we enjoyed the Sweet and Sour Chicken, Chicken Fried Rice, Chicken Chow Mein and Beef and Broccoli. Yum Yum Yum!

Going strictly off the food I give it 4 hovering around 5 stars, I'd say it's the best Chinese "fast food" in the area that I've found anyway. Convenience with take-out/delivery I give it 5, price of food 4, restaurant itself I give 1-2 stars. Starting with the food. I'll try something new just about every time I order there and I'm always very satisfied with the quality and taste of the food. The price is right too. Convenient because I get it delivered to my house, and they are prompt around 30 minutes to deliver hot food, I live about 10 blocks away and use my credit card to pay from my front door which is extra nice. The restaurant itself is a dump lets face it, not health-code dumpy just like really old, musty and need of a thorough demo and remodel. I've never got sick off the food so I trust the kitchen itself to be in good order. The people there are friendly and decent folks. I've frequented their establishment for years now and I find the people I've dealt with to be friendly and courteous. I'd say if you got bad service from them you're probably a whiny jerk or maybe you just caught them having a bad day. Would I suggest to friends and family? It would definitely be yes for take-out, to dine in I'd make other suggestions, there's plenty of good dine-in restaurants in the area.

In all honesty: 3 1/2 Stars The food is good. The interior is old. Sure is pretty okay except you are seated in individual cubicles that they don't really see if you need anything from across the room. They did come check up on us once or twice. This is a really old restaurant where it has been here for at least three generations. So it's an historic restaurant in Japantown.

Went with a few friends to check this place out. We tried hot and sour soup (I thought it was good, we only had 4 adults and the portions were really generous) Vanilla Prawns - big fried prawns with cashews. Similar to honey walnut prawns. Was good Beef Chow Fun - wasn't a fan of the sauce, I would pass on this next time and check out the chow mein instead. Mandarin Chicken - Fried chicken with garlic sauce. It was good and there were even slivers of garlic. Watch out for those if you don't want an explosion of fresh garlic. Sauteed string beans - not too bad, a bit soggy on some. Overall it was an okay meal. Nothing made it spectacular. Prices were pretty good too. The restaurant itself is pretty old like others have said. There are little "cubicles" with a table in each so you get a bit of privacy, but the paint is chipping, the carpet is old, the lighting is dim and you got that kind of sticky feeling. They could probably do a little better on this. I think this place is better suited for takeout/delivery. Next time I'll probably do take out and eat in the comfort of my own home.

I've given this place at least four chances. First time around I said to myself the food seem too sweet. Anyways went back three more times and it's now confirmed that it is really sweet and OILY. Big portions but WTH I can't eat oil and sugar at the same time. The dishes are just not to my liking. Yikes! The service was fast. The place looks dingy and reminds me of an old western saloon. They have booths to sit and regular tables as well. Parking can be a challenge here since it's J-Town-MY TOWN. They are pricey compared to other chinese restaurants but I guess their portions will make up for the extra $$.

A small army of we friends and couples got together for a rare, ever-rare, holiday weekend where we were free and available. Someone said "family style". Another said "Chinese". Then "Wing's?". Then E purred "...spicy Peking spare ribs..." and my eyes went glassy. And I might have drooled. They accommodated our reservation for twenty without hesitation and suggested that we place our orders in advance. Smart, yeah? Historic SJ Japantown charm; the decor and atmosphere is silver screen worthy cliche! Up a flight of creaky stairs, the age'd and worn restaurant has a homey and timeless look and feel with dangling red and gold lanterns and trim, dimly lit private booths (w/ curtains!), lazy susans, and requisite soy/chile/mustard condiments on every table. The exceptionally friendly, family-style service seals the deal on that cozy, homey appeal... That Friday evening, the kitchen was bustling with the sound of sizzling and steam, pots and pans, a symphony of cooking, putting together multiple orders of Spicy Peking Spare Ribs, Veggie Delight, Seafood Deluxe, Hunan chicken, Vanilla prawns, BBQ pork fried rice, Black Mushroom Bean Curd, Mongolian Beef, and at least two orders of "*Who knows what else we ordered?! There's so much food on the table! Just EAT!" (*that's not really on the menu, just so you know... wingsofsanjose.com/menu.… ) Huge portions at affordable prices! For less than $12 a person, given all that we'd ordered, belly's full, there were plenty of leftovers for the next morning/hangover! Some of the dishes are just standard fare, of course, no worse nor better than restaurant's, but the Spare Ribs, Hunan Chicken, and Black Bean Curd are winners for me, hands down! Good and tasty enough that we'll sometimes order it to be delivered down the block on those lazy, sleepy, "let's chill at the house", nights in. Mmmm... now I'm craving! _____________________ The delivery guy actually delivers by bicycle when we order from E's place down the street! How much more Hollywood cinema charm can you get? WING'S WINS!

Yes, the decor is outdated. Yes, you have to climb a flight of stairs to your destination. And yes, the food is well... pretty damn good. I've come here on numerous amount of times when I used to live in the Bay Area and -- what the heck? I'm barely writing a review on it! Aside from the vast amount of Chinese restaurants to choose from, Wing's has got to be the BEST. Located in the heart of downtown San Jose, this historic building encompasses this intimate restaurant that offers anything from greasy chow mein, won ton soup, walnut shrimp, and my absolute fave: sweet and sour chicken. I would like to add that I'm very fussy with Chinese food butI always find myself coming back to this place. 5 stars all the way!!!

My boyfriend introduced me to this place a few weeks ago. It was a to-go order so I didn't see the inside. He said, "imagine you walked into a Chinese restaurant from the late 70's-80's." is how he described it. Funny. The vegetarian egg rolls were just okay. I really enjoyed that I didn't find them to be too greasy and actually pretty crispy. But on the inside, it could have done without so much of the lettuce filling. Some would be okay used in combination with other types of vegetables but simply filling it with the 'lettuce' made it taste bland. I use quotation marks because I don't actually know the real name for what it was, sorry people. Ooh am I in LOVE with the hot and sour soup here!!! Yes! Delicious! This one was a winner for sure and why I am giving this place four stars. The rice dish was also good too. Again, not too greasy and large portions. They also threw in some random home made cookies. If this place wasn't so far away, I'd be back sooner but if we are in the area and craving some hot soup, this will be my list to check out again.

Great place for Chinese food and guess what? They deliver! On this rainy Sunday, ordering delivery from Wing's was the answer for dinner (after a full 2 days of a seminar and driving to Sacramento). The delivery fee was $3 (plus 10% suggested tip), and the delivery guy will even take debit card! Sweet, especially for all the other laziest of the lazies! We had: Garlic Chicken-good flavor w/ visible slices of garlic and water chestnuts were crunchy Vanilla Prawns-came with cashews and pineapple, tastes similar to honey walnut prawns, tails were cut off Mongolian Beef-not as spicy as expected but still flavorful and good Black Mushroom Bean Curd-shiitake mushrooms with tofu snap peas and baby corn Peking Spareribs-breaded pork with a bbq sauce White Rice $4-one order is good for two and they also offer brown rice Fortune Cookies - not the generic Vanilla kind, so they were as expected Bill came to $63 incl. delivery and 10% It was 45 min. from the time of order (or 15 min. if it was going to be for take out, which is nice that they gave us the option while on the phone). It was really easy to order with their menu online. No msg here so it wasn't salty. All in all, all the entrees came as were expected. Decent portions-we'll probably have leftovers for a few days. Decent meat to veggie ratio as well. We would order from here again, especially if we're lazy!

Old school decor, booths, up stairs, friendly Chinese people, and a lot of food sums up this place. Whoops, I forgot to write about this place when I went here in Dec? Looking for a nearby chinese place for lunch, we went here and ordered the lunch specials. The lunch specials, while not vast options, offered a huge plate of food. The hot n sour soup was pretty good from what I remembered. While I can usually eat, I barely put a dent on the plate. My guest amazed me and ate her entire plate. I took the rest of mine to go which, of course, ended up with her. Dang, always eating up all my Chinese food. =/ All and all, ok food, great lunch specials and large serving size.

Though this place has been here forever, the food is not the greatest. The food is too salty and doesn't taste fresh. The old man was super rude. When I asked for bbq pork fried rice and beef chow mein with sweet and sour pork he said "why you want so much meat for?" Umm excuse me? Never returning here.

My husband ate here last year and I don't remember what we had but I know I was not impressed with this restaurant. I do remember the fried rice was really bland. The service was not bad, though, and I like the privacy of the booths.

One of the good Chinese Restaurants in bay. Service is good, their portions are generous and they don't use MSG. However, i have to say the building is so old and you can hear the floor squeaks as you walk. The Inside is very dark and the place has a different smell altogether. I only _hope_ the kitchen has better conditions and ventilation. I used to stay close by and i always preferred takeout than dine-in.

Being 2nd generation Chinese with totally picky elders in the fam, I sometimes also crave "less authentic" Chinese food. This said, Wing's is our go-to Chinese-American dining experience. The place is totally old school (meaning it's never been remodeled, probably since the 60s), which appeals to some but may just seem old and weird to others. Combined with the friendly service, yummy no-msg Chow Fun and Hot and Sour Soup, and almond cookies, I think it's charming and fun. Delivery is a plus, too. We've been going there for years, and our now 8-yr old hapa boy always gets extra desserts to take home! Love this place! BTW, there's a fairly new parking lot on Jackson at about 6th St. if you don't want to deal with meters and don't mind a little stroll. The shops on Jackson are fun, so it's worth it!

Disclaimer: Delivery service - I picked Wing's Chinese because they were the only place I could find that provided delivery service to the Doubletree Hotel on a Sunday afternoon. With that note I must say that my delivered food was great. Memorable chinese food, maybe the best delivered chinese food I have ever enjoyed. Steamed Dumplings - still fresh and light when delivered. Very tasty. WonTon Soup - sure, it's just WonTon soutp right? But this seemed to have extra flavor. Lots of greens accompanied the many wontons. Schezwan Shrimp - excellent sauce with the right spice. Good sized shrimp, lots of them. Peppers, zucchini, carrots. Really nice dish. So, if you're stuck in the Doubletree and want good food, Wings will take good care of you.

Here's an update for ya: Japan Town has plenty of other restaurants... go visit them. Wing's lacks soul or original spirit and serve up lame or average renditions of American-style Chinese Food favorites. i think they don't respect the palette of the locals and think we couldn't tell the difference between dishes. I live nearby and I've visited the place many many times... it's convenient and passable but I have to say that I'm done. Nice people but their soulless, non-effort approach makes me want to go anywhere else but there. In my past review, I think I gave them the benefit of the doubt but I was wrong. All their food is edible but it's not what I'd call remarkable in any way. As I made my way through the menu, the lack of any surprises (and often disappointments) just made me take my 4 down to a 1.

It's more like 2.5 stars...I came here for dinner on a weekend with a large group, 10+ and fortunately it wasn't busy and we didn't have to wait. We ordered the typical things American-Chinese restaurants have to offer. Food is cheap and service is fast, but everything on the menu seems to be drenched in overly sweet or savory sauce. The best part was staff. They were attentive and accommodating, but the food was okay. It's better than American-Chinese fast food, but nothing to rave about. It pales in comparison to other Chinese restaurants in the SJ area. Parking can be a pain, since most of the streets in Japantown are usually filled up.

This place used to be a favorite, but that was ages ago. Recently, the food is overly flavored/salty. Decor is outdated and divey. I only get take out. Overall, the food isn't bad and based on price it's a good value.

Today, while working at a county building, I decided to order food from here. I placed my order at 5:30pm and was told it would take 30-45 minutes. At 6:30pm, I called to check on my order and was immediately told, "FOOD ON WAY!" Later, at 7:30pm, I called once again, this time, I was allowed to speak and was again told, "I TOLD YOU, FOOD ON WAY!" Being the kind and respectful person, I said THANK YOU. Finally, at 8pm I called to check again. The person on the phone said, "WHO YOU!" I gave him my location and order. He said, "HE ALREADY WENT, YOU NOT THERE!" WE NOT GOING THERE AGAIN!" According to him, they called me and I never answered (NOT TRUE) and they waited ("wasted") 30 minutes on me. This is very unfortunate because I like their food. I WILL NOT be going there again, the service will FOREVER make that food SOUR. BTW: I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE TO ANYONE AGAIN!!!!

This is the best Chinese Restaurant in the South Bay! The Sweet and Sour Pork tastes as though the pork was grilled prior to adding the sauce. It is delicious! As is the Salt and Pepper Prawns, the Vanilla Prawns and Mongolian Beef. The place has been here since 1925 and still has that old charm and ambiance. I like the semi-private rooms with the beaded curtains, it only enhances the experience. It's family owned and run and they are very friendly. I always recommend Wings whenever someone asks me if I know a good Chinese Restaurant.

Finally decided to try this place after passing by it everytime I am in japan town. It's next to a Mexican restaurant (that I have yet to try) and when you enter, you gotta go up the stairs to reach the restaurant (they sure make you work for your food..) The atmosphere is pretty dark inside, and you get your own little booth to eat in, which I thought was interesting. I thought it would be hard to get the waiters' attention since we were in the corner booth in the back but the waiters were very attentive! A+ for service, which was not expected. What we got: Wonton noodle soup. The small is enough for two people. The wontons are ok, lots of veggies in the soup, which is good I guess. Overall the soup was a bit salty for my taste. Beef chow fun. The traditional style of beef chow fun that I always eat just includes the beef, noodles, bean sprouts and onions. Wing's version does not have the bean sprouts, but has baby corns, carrots, and broccoli. This dish was tasty but I think I am more used to the version with bean sprouts. This version is good for getting your servings of veggies :P. Peking spareribs. I think I set too high of expectations for this dish. It was alright, the meat was a bit chewy. I don't think I would order this again. It tastes like pork with a lot of barbeque sauce with a bit of sourness to it. It was actually a bit salty for me, but I solved that problem by stuffing my mouth with a spoonful of white rice with each bite of the spareribs. I would come back to this place again to try different dishes, but it's not on the top of my priority list..

One of the many gems in San Jose's Japantown. Courteous family owned establishment that isn't cheap but has nice specials. Try the garlic chicken its exceptional. Before 3pm m-f there are lunch specials such as "happy family" or "general chicken" which come with rice and chow mein from $6.99-$8.99. If you live in the Japantown area or near bye you are eligible for delivery which is another bonus feature for a local Chinese restaurant. I'd recommend the Wing's Chow Mein, Beef Chow Fun and Garlic Chicken

The food is slightly above average and the portions are huge. $10 dinner plate will last me 2 meals. you can still order 5 minutes before they close for the night, but for take out only... understandable. Delivery too!

Not a great place for vegetarians/vegans...barely any options (no "fake" meat stuff, only a couple tofu dishes). Prices are a little higher than I remember at other Chinese restaurants ($6.50 for plain chow mein), but the portions were a bit bigger. Nice, quiet, polite waitstaff. At the end, one of them brought my kids some extra fortune cookies and a lollipop. Nice, private atmosphere, which is rare for any restaurant. Would definitely recommend to others, but won't make this place a must-go for myself.

Too many stupid people on this site believe that new is synonymous with good---this simply isn't true. It doesn't matter if the interior at Wing's is "dated" the food is delicious and the portions generous. I find the antiquated layout and decorations to be unique and charming. Many kitschy chain restaurants, i.e. Chili's and Applebees, would kill to have the kind of vintage appeal present here.

Chinese delivery? I'm sold! We live in a rather awkward part of town - it's a new development, there's stuff around but unless you want to eat nothing but pizza, it's hard to find solid delivery joints. However, Wing's comes to the rescue! We are apparently right on the border of their delivery route, and they got lost, but voila, at the end of the night, we had a very delicious meal waiting: - Garlic chicken: VERY garlicky - with lots of well flavored and tender chicken, bell peppers, onions, zucchini, you name it - yummm - Potstickers - crispy on the outside, and they even poke holes in the box so the steam doesn't make the outsides mushy and they layer the bottom with wax paper so they don't stick! - Shrimp fried rice - imagine the shrimp from honey prawns in a sauteed rice and egg mixture - sooo good - Chicken chow mein - delicious! Big chunks of chicken, thick noodles that are not TOO oily I have no idea what the delivery fee was, but they take credit card, and everything was delicious; our new favorite takeout!

Every time I walk up those stairs it reminds me of my old apartment on Clay Street in San Francisco. It really embodies that hole-in-the-wall restaurant down an alley in Chinatown with the faint scent of incense kind of feel. I'm all about the vegetarian fried rice, egg rolls, mongolian beef, and potstickers. Typical American Chinese cuisine, but sometimes you just need to crash out on a Friday night after an endless work week with a trashy movie and takeout.

So we used to have a neighbor that would stink up the building with his delicious chinese takeout, but I'd never see him come out of his unit to ask him where he was ordering from. I finally figured it our. Wing's is less than 2 blocks from our house and since discovering this (last Tuesday), we've ordered twice. We've only done takeout, though I do want to eat there sometime because those little booths like kinda fun. Everyone is super friendly when we've gone to pick up and our food has been ready SUPER fast both times. We've tried almond chicken, mandarin chicken, beef with broccoli, shrimp chow mein & veggie chow mein. I'd order any of those things again, but there's too many new things to try first! No, it's not fancy, exciting gourmet food, but when I want yummy salty, saucey chinese goodness it is PERFECT.

If you think its hard to screw up making fried rice, think again. The fried rice is probably the worse that we have ever had. "Brown food" is how we described it (see picture). The house fried rice was soggy, had no flavor and looked unappealing. Had it not been the friendly service, I would have given them a 1 star. Who ever made that fried rice, needs to go back to cooking school.

This place is one of the oldest if not the oldest Chinese restaurants in San Jose. When you walk in you can tell this place is old. The food here is good and the service is also good. I particularly enjoy the hot and sour soup along with the lemon chicken. The fried rice is ok but their Hong Kong style noodles are good. They have a great to go menu for two or more that comes with soup a couple of dishes and egg rolls.

So. Much. Food. Get one of those deluxe plates. It comes with an entree, chow mein and fried rice, and an eggroll. These aren't baby servings either. The entree alone is enough to be considered an ala carte item. The waitress commented on how she was impressed that both my friend and I finished our plates. I guess most people don't. You can't complain when there's too much food! The restaurant is sorta awkward. Located it Japantown (yeah, Chinese food in Japantown), you enter on street level, only to climb up one flight of stairs to get to the main dining room on the second level. The interior is dark and dated, one room full of tables, the other room with booths. Overall, it's good food, maybe freshly cooked, but otherwise, it's delicious.

I'm in the Mood for Food LOL. So I head to Japan Town in downtown San Jose . And I spot Wings so I stop there and to my surprise its on the second floor. I hit a time warp , its decorated like a 1900s Bordello. The tables are set in stalls with Partitions ,Its a pretty interesting place. I get greeted and seated . I ordered the Deluxe Dinner which is Chow Mein, Fried Rice ,Egg Roll, and a Entree of your choice . I picked the Happy Family which is Chicken ,Beef ,Pork Shrimp , Broccoli, Cauliflower , Squash , Carrots and Baby Corn. I get served with this Massive Plate of food Yes . I dig in and its very Tasty and Filling Yum. Then as a Happy Ending I get an Almond and a Fortune Cookie . They even take Credit cards . Ill definitely Return.

My husband ans I came here because we watch the show "Check Please" and were impressed that this restaurant has been in SJ for over 20 years! They're doing something right! We arrived on New Year's eve since I didn't feel like cooking and were SOOOOOO impressed. We tried their infamous Schewan chicken and LOVED it! We also tried, their Mongolian beef, walnut shrimp, pork fried rice, hot and sour soup, spring rolls and chicken salad. They serve a ton but my husband always likes to try a little of everything at a new restaurant. The shrimp were HUGE! The beef, wonderful. The spring rolls, awesome. Everything was really good and we loved the ambiance. I know others have said they hated it, but the decor is "Chinese dynasty." Yeah, it's old, but I didn't mind it. I especially loved the secluded booths they have for every table. The people that worked there were very nice and polite. At the end of our meal, we received a box of almond cookies! ( I think this was a New Year's gift) Overall, we loved it and can't wait for our next Chinese food craving!

First Impressions: Hungry? Hung over? Don't want pizza delivered to you? Wing's is peerrrrfect! I Decor: I ate at Wing's 5 times in my beloved home. Usually hungover. I have never been to the restaurant so I can't answer that question for you. Sorry. Service: There is a menu online, call in and order, Usually 30 minutes later they show up to your door with hot Chinese food. A bonus is that they give you almond cookies and fortune cookes too! Taste: Pretty good Chinese American food! It is really not different or special from other places. It just delivers if you ever crave Chinese food. They give you a lot for your money. I love their soups, wonton, seafood, hot and sour! It really warms up the tummy. Specialty: I think a lot of people go here because of the price and good ol' greasy Chinese food. I personally eat here because it is a great alternative to pizza delivery food. Food 3 stars, price & portions 4 stars, delivery 5 stars!!! Price: $15/person Recommendations: Hunan chicken, beef and broccoli, the soups. You get what you order! Everything is very familiar to your taste buds and the food is not as greasy or salty as other places. Don't over order, portions are pretty generous here.

Went to Wings for dinner last night with a large (13 people) group that included kids, adults, vegetarians, and carnivores. Gotta tell you, they did a great job. The food was delicious, and they were able to accommodate all of our requests. The staff was very attentive, and super friendly. I would not think twice about going back with a large group, and will definitely return either to grab lunch, food to go, or just take my family. Sure the place isn't fancy, but I would much rather have great food at reasonable prices than average food that is way overpriced.

As a little munchkin I would come here many days out of the week with my familia and I don't remember it being this Fantastic............ keep it short and sweet.........I grew WINGS and went to heaven.....not even joking the Vanilla Prawns YUMMERS! Give me a whole entire plate and I would chow down licking it clean ( none left for fluffy), having to run 7 miles after wouldn't bother me one bit............Wasn't impresed with the chicken curry it was still good but not to die for........... Oooooo the staff there are soo cute OOooooo they really are sweet !!!!!! Best part is that I didn't blow up and become a blimp like I usually do after a meal of chinese food which is why this is my first actual dinner of chinese food for almost 1 year and a half which is why I was really happy to go and was glad that it pleased my appetite! Heck Yay Wings you are on the top of my list in my book of yummy food!!!!!!!

Really.... I was really hoping for something great with all the great things I've been hearing. Maybe I ordered all the wrong things? I'm not sure, but I know I've had better elsewhere. I do give them credit for the tables in their own sections (3 walls), it felt like a real Chinese movie scene. We started with their hot and sour soup, which was pretty good, had plenty of bites in there. Hunan Chicken- fried boneless chicken breast in hot spicy Hunan sauce, white meat, like tenders, covered in their hunan sauce. The sauce wasn't spicy as I thought it would be, kind of more on the sweet side. Vanilla Prawns- fried Prawns with cashew nuts in sweet mayonnaise sauce, the shrimp were prawns, they were small shrimps covered with a thick layer of batter, fried. I peeled the outer layer and comes out the small shrimp. The mayo was ok, I really enjoy eating honey walnuts with prawns, the sauce here was similar but just wasn't the same without the shrimp cooked the way it normally comes. Beef with Broccoli- the meat was tender and the broccoli was cooked nicely, but the problem was it had the same sauce as the hunan chicken we ordered. I think there was zucchini in this dish too. Black mushrooms with cabbage- the mushrooms were nice but it had the same brown sauce, the hunan sauce. Vegetable chow mein- cabbage, baby corn, bean sprouts- this was just plain. There was no real flavor. Overall, the service was great, the staff was friendly. The dishes on the other hand, 3 of the 6 we got, had the same "brown" sauce, most likely the hunan sauce. The only reason why the other dishes didn't have it was because it was soup, mayo base and chow mein. So maybe I need to order dishes that I know won't come out with all the same sauce.

The cook here last Wednesday night must have been having a bad day. The lemon chicken was soggy and the fried rice was so tasteless. I was disappointed. I am an ok cook but I can make way better fried rice. I hope it was the just the cook, I would like to give them another try but for the price I don't know if it's worth it.

The Captain has decided! (After consulting Ma, of course) This venue deserves 5 stars! We know you purists out there will decry this decision (At least you would if The Captain and Ma's ruminations were more widely read) because it is "Chinamerican food", and "not authentic". The Captain and Ma have serious issues with these allegations. This joint represents an AUTHENTIC CHINESE / AMERICAN tradition which dates back to before the turn of the last century, when "Chop Suey" first appeared among Chinese miners and rail workers during the Gold Rush! Selling meals to round eyes was one of the few ways a Chinese immigrant could prosper during those overtly racist times, which persisted well after the 1940's. Witness... Wings's Chinese Restaurant! It opened in 1925 and represented the cutting edge of Chinese cuisine adapted for American tastes. It was only in or near large port cities like New York, San Francisco, or Los Angeles, after the end of the First World War, where a few adventurous round eyed bon vivants discovered "Chop Suey". It didn't fully catch on in main stream America until after WWII. Although chop suey may have actually originated in the Toisan region which is South of Canton, (researches argue about this) it was one of the earliest Asian foods consumed by Occidentals here, along with dishes like fried rice, sweet and sour whatevers, and on and on. The date Wing's Chinese Food was established is significant, because it appeared only about five years after even the average round eye in San Francisco knew the cuisine existed. Just parking in front of the joint is to step well back into the middle of the last century. The well preserved building was beautifully crafted in that time, which featured many authentic Chinese accents on the exterior. The crowning touch is the well maintained neon sign above the door which dates back to the building's original construction. The Interior lobby appears little changed from it's inception. Climbing the stairs to the second floor service area, (Sorry. Apparently due to the historic landmark status of the building they seem to be exempt from wheelchair access laws. Fortunately, they do deliver) one is struck by the old red velvet wallpaper, the dark wood, and the very curious semiprivate booths divided by lacquered panels and bead curtains, which to an over-imaginative round eye as The Captain is, seemed to hearken back to the dim opium dens and Oriental intrigues of the Barbary Coast in San Francisco. When built, the dining area consisted of many private booths, which were even equipped with "call buttons" for summoning the server. In the 1950's it was modernized and opened up somewhat, but wisely, the owners elected to preserve as much of the original ambiance as possible. Ma and The Captain were entranced by this. We could easily imagine in one booth, a speakeasy owner whispering conspiratorially over fried rice and won ton soup with a local madam and a Fedora'd bootlegger, and in the next, a local protestant parson and his family enjoying a wholesome family meal, unaware of the unsavory and unholy plots being hatched on the other side of that thin panel. "CAP'N!" (Ma Megabyte, The Captain's Wife, Chief Tormentor and Partner in Crime) Yes! Floozies and flappers, cops and robbers, scions and scalawags, all dining... "Hey! Cap'n glory hole! Yer suppozed ta be revooin da place, not writ'n a mystery novel!" What? Harumph! Yes dear. Quite! Quite! Ahem... Although it is alleged by a fellow yelper that this place was sold to new owners recently, they seem determined to preserve everything as it was down to the last detail. Bravo! I'll be brief. "HAH! You bein brief? That'll be the day!" Ma! Don't interrupt. Eat your chow mein, pass me the Szechuan prawns, and let me get on with this... PLEASE! All of the several dishes we tried were rendered perfectly. Sweet and Sour Pork doesn't get much better... Crispy, not too fatty, crunchy fresh veggies and the sauce is just right. Their famous hot and sour soup was neither particularly spicy or sour, but it was hearty, and with the addition of a bit of rice wine vinegar, and white pepper, (for those of us who prefer authentic hot/sour) delicious. We have also loved the oyster sauce beef and lobster sauce shrimp. The service is friendly and fast, and when you order takeout and they say it will be ready in 20 minutes, they mean it. "Hey Cap'n!" Sigh... Yes Ma. "When're we goin back? I wanna try the sizzling rice soup" How about now? You know what they say about Chinese food... "Pa! We just finished our take out an hour ago!" Yes, but by the time we get more... Well, you know... AND DON'T CALL ME PA! My family has been coming here since the 40's I grew up on this spot & I can never get enough!! I love the original 1920's wall paper and bells in the rooms. It's so old school mafia joint. Not to mention the food is the best Chinese in San Jose! Wow, I'm getting hungry just thinking about it. I recommend the beef, cashew chicken and egg rolls.

Wing's is one of those rare finds. This place has been here for decades. It has a charming antique feel that reaches back to its depression era (1925) beginnings. They serve authentic Mandarin and Szechuan cuisine. My husband and I discovered Wings through a friend several years ago snd it gad become one if our favorite places for a reasonably priced quick after-work dinner. The food is exceptional and the service is always top rate. The stag is friendly and attentive.

Wings is the most crackin Chinese food spot in San Jose. Huge portions, great food, great service & great price. The broccoli beef is fire. The chow mein is fire. The fried rice is fire. What else do you need? One meal from Wings is enough food for 3 regular meals..

Awesome delivery and dining. This is my go to Chinese food delivery. I have always gotten some of the best Chinese food I've ever had from here. The inside is nice but it is a little old and worn out. Getting close to needing a remodel. The food is delicious, if a bit on the greasy side. I love their sweet and sour pork and chow mein, i get it every time.

This place used to be so bomb!! I took my dad to eat here today and everything was good so far I had chow mein and wonton soup, after we decided to order pork Fried rice and I must say it was not good at all!!, it was dry, no flavor, and the meat was just in chunks, I told the guy we didn't like it and the back cook came out looking at my table all psycho like it's my fault that your rice sucks! After that they assumed we were done and he brought us the check. I say this again THIS PLACE WAS AMAZING AT ONE POINT! I don't know what happen, I'll try again but not for a while.

When I lived in Downtown, I used to go here regularly. It was within walking distance to my Victorian apartment at one point and I loved coming here. Well, that was in my 20s and the place HASN'T CHANGED decorating wise!!! I'm not sure if that's good or bad. The booths STILL have doorbells installed into the walls. and the 60s-ish wood bead chains hanging down from the open doorways. The flocked red and gold wallpaper is peeling and dirty/worn in spots and it looks dingy, but would I want a change of the interior? I'm on the fence about that one. We were in J-Town for Obon and my husband wanted to treat us to Wings, since my daughter had never been there. I used to eat ma-po tofu here and happy family, which is chicken, shrimp, beef and pork (that's a dead family, not a happy one -or maybe it's named that because it's has all sorts of meat in it and thus pleases the entire family? Anyway, all I remembered was that it tasted good). We ordered the happy family platter and a mixed vegetable plate with sizzling rice soup and then just had hot tea and water. The happy family was good but kind of on the salty side for me. That might be due to the fact that my diet has changed to basically a non-soy sort of diet since February and I'm not used to dishes with a heavier soy-based sauce. So I'm not going to say that's a bad thing, just my personal taste. The meat in the dish was really good but I didn't recall the crab or the squid in the dish, so that's new. Happy family also had broccoli, baby corn and water chestnuts in it as well. The mixed vegetables were good, there was a LOT of vegetables. Broccoli, baby corn, water chestnuts, celery, cabbage, and carrots. The sizzling rice soup was excellent. The server was really attentive and the food came quickly. The women's bathroom is RIGHT next to the kitchen and it's sort of a makeshift plywood door/entryway separating the bathroom from the kitchen, which is sort of weird. It's like you can hear pots and pans being banged around right in the bathroom. I totally didn't remember that about the place. Anyhow, it was a fun trip back to memory lane, but being that we're so far away, we probably won't be back for a while. Street parking, metered. AWESOME neon sign outside. You have to climb a pretty good flight of stairs to get to the dining area so the elderly or disabled might not be able to get up there.

I've only been here a handful of times and most were for takeout. However each time has been a great experience with terrific service. Everyone is always so nice here. It's hard to find a good Chinese place in San Jose that isn't a big chain or banquet style restaurant. Wings is definitely is a comfortable, quaint little place. This is usually my go to spot to get some comforting won ton soup. I called in an order for take out today. Tired after work and frustrated in rush hour traffic, I finally arrived to pick up my order and even received some almond cookies to go with it! Definitely put me in a better mood!

Meh.. This review is purely based on to go food. I ordered a lunch box with sour and sweet pork to go. The fried rice and egg roll was pretty good but chow mein was not so good. Sour and sweet pork was just ok. The portion was quite huge for one to complete. All in all, will give another try sooner or later. If I dont like that time too, then never going back here.

The food is great and the prices are very reasonable. The best feature is that the tables are separated in Lil rooms so you have privacy. It's very cozy. I would very much recommend this place if u enjoy good food at a reasonable price..

Heed the warnings about this place. They're true. I haven't had Chinese this bad in awhile. Let's start with the restaurant itself: it's on the second floor, meaning it traps all the odors of cooking. If what they were cooking was good, it might be alright, but instead it just smelled of oil and must. Uncool. This really rustled my jimmies: the tea. How do you mess up tea, you might ask? Well, by being a bloddy cheapskates. The lukewarm water, the lack of leaves in the pot, and the awful smell of burnt tea evidence strongly that they keep it in a large container and just pour it into a pot for show. Disgusting. All it takes is LITERALLY pouring water, and they couldn't even afford to do that. What. the hell. Food. I ordered the mandarin beef, a dish described as "fried beef with a red chili sauce." Now, in a Chinese restaurant, "fried" means pan-fried, right? Not at Wing's! They threw this sucker in batter and deep fried the hell out of it, leaving me with an onion-ring-like beef dish DRENCHED in the heaviest sauce I've seen outside of Panda Express. While the sauce was... edible... Chinese sauce is supposed to coat, not smother, and was definitely not what I expected. The vegetables the dish came with - bell peppers, onions, and celery - were poorly incorporated into the meal and seemed to be just added for the sake of adding vegetables into the dish. They also weren't stir fried properly, leaving them harder than expected and making the dish seem even HEAVIER, if it was even possible in the first place. I spent the rest of the day sleepy and feeling disgusting from all the oil. I know the reviews say that this place has problems with "consistency," but honestly, if the Michelin guide takes that into account, so should all food reviews. Either way, I won't be returning to put it to the test.

My top review for a non traditional or Americanized Chinese food. Shrimp here is huge. Deep fried crunchy and full of flavor. Beef chow fun is complex and large pieces of tender beef and full of veggies. Don't expect to find a choy here or any choy authentic veggies. In fact veggies on the menu was only 3 items. Upstairs in a turn of the century like rooms was like restaurants in China. Very charming tho a bit dark as I was a bit concerned for things that move in the dark. But that was overcomes with nice staff and good food. Even though it's Panda Express does gourmet style.

This place is usually good but to find a big ass chunk of egg shell in my fried rice shows how careless they are with they're cooking. Clearly they don't care about their customers health. If I was to choke on that. Believe his place would be closed for business.

We've been ordering from wings for a few months (probably about seven/eight times) and the last four orders have been wrong. We ordered 'pork fried rice' and 'mu shu pork' and it's all chicken AGAIN. When we called we specifically said 'please be sure it's right, the last three times we ordered something it's been wrong.' Once we realized the order was wrong again we called to say it's all chicken, no pork (see pictures) and were told to go 'f*ck ourselves' and to 'be patient' .... I The will NEVER be eating at this sh*thole again!!!!!! They insisted it was pork which means the last time we ordered chicken it was actually pork, so which one is it!?!?!?

Though they are fast as f#$k, I think I'll take my wings and flap elsewhere. Not great sauce, and it tastes like they put the same stuff on everything. My broccoli was slathered in it, served hot but somehow uncooked. Cheap, but not worth it. And what's with the almond cookies? I see that they sell them by the boxful but didn't include one in my to-go order. The lowest standard of Chinese cooking: speed, not quality.

I am not a fan of this place. I placed a pick up Togo order over the phone and right off the bat the guy taking my order was so rude. Then when we picked up the food they only gave me one pack of hot sauce. When I asked for another one the guy told me it would be an extra 35 cents. The 35 cents is no big deal but I just bought 4 dishes which came out to over $50 and tipped on my Togo but I can't have more than one hot sauce? Just seemed really stingy to me. The food wasn't good at all either. The Mongolian beef was too salty and chewy. Chicken was pretty much the same. Vanilla prawns were alright. I really wish this place was better because it's so close to my house. If the customer service was a little nicer maybe I would have given it another shot.

First off I feel bad about writing a bad review but I'm writing my honest opinion. I haven't had bad Chinese food like this in a long time. It's hard to believe a restaurant like this can survive in San Jose. I ordered BBQ spareribs and my husband ordered Garlic chicken. They were both deep-fried and covered with the same sauce. The building smelled musty and the interior was dirty and dark. It was almost creepy. I liked the almond cookie they gave us at the end of the meal though.

You can't be serious! Is Chinese food in San Jose really this bad, or am I just f'n cursed? It's probably my fault for not picking up on a few obvious signs when I showed up at this dump... - The bad smell as I walked up the stairs - 1st sign - Ordered 3 things, and they were all ready in less than 10 minutes - 2nd sign - Only table had customers - 3rd sign I guess my punishment for being an idiot was having to taste their food. The vegetable Spring Rolls (1 1/2 stars) were a good size, and came with a side of the sweetest sweet-n-sour sauce you'll ever taste. Sweet doesn't mean good though....someone f**ked up on an ingredient there. I don't even know why my dumb a** ate all three spring rolls. I should'a tossed the other two after my third bite (making sure it really was bad and that the first two bites weren't flukes) yelp.com/biz_photos/wing… The Hunan Chicken (1 star) tasted like they made it last week and just reheated it for me...then drenched it in as much sauce as they could fit in the to-go box. After wiping down all the sauce that leaked out of the box, I gave it a few chances before throwing it out. It was supposed to be, but wasn't spicy at all... just sh*tty. Worst chicken dish I've had in at least a decade. yelp.com/biz_photos/wing… If you blindfolded me and put the Mongolian Beef (2 stars) in front of me, I'd guess that it was a box of sautéed garlic.....and that's it. What's the problem guys, was the garlic about to go bad so you decided to dump ALL OF IT in my mongolian beef? This was supposed to be spicy too, but it wasn't... probably because they got the hot peppers confused for the garlic. yelp.com/biz_photos/wing… How do you know it's time to close down your Chinese Restaurant and find a new line of work? When the Steamed Rice (3 stars) is the highlight of your customers' meals. That's right, the only good thing I had tonight was steamed f**king rice! yelp.com/biz_photos/wing…

This place is so good! I've been here twice now with my parents and both times have been great. The place is a bit old fashioned but it's somewhat charming. We've gotten a few different things like fried rice, kung pao chicken, chow mein, and sweet and sour pork and they are even good the next day as leftovers. The portions are also pretty generous. And the complimentary almond cookies at the end are delicious! Staff is also very friendly. Or at least the woman that served us was.

In my opinion, Wing's Chinese Restaurant is an extraordinarily smooth (meaning, the dining experience), one-of-a-kind place to eat lunch on Jackson Street in San Jose. The restaurant has a nice ambiance. Nice private booth. Fantastic food -- I had the Happy Family lunch entree -- and great service. Generous portion. Would go back again. Recommend.

I was totally craving Chinese but was feeling lazy to drive anywhere. The gentleman who answered the phone was super nice! Even though I was slightly out of their delivery parameters he agreed to bring me food : ) The guy who delivered was equally nice. I don't think I've ever had someone say 'thank you" to me so many times in a row! They came within the amount of time they said they would and take credit cards, which made it convenient since I didn't have cash on me. The food itself is really good, just not the best I've ever had. The hot and sour soup was awesome and full of tofu, chicken, fresh tasting shrimp, eggs and other tasty stuff. Sweet and sour pork was good- nice and tender and not too much breading. Kung pao chicken was just the right amount of heat. What I liked the most out of all of these dishes is how crisp and fresh all of the veggies were. The only slight letdown was the chow mein- although it was a generous portion filled with beef and chicken, the noodles weren't my favorite. The spring rolls also weren't my favorite but I was impressed with how many veggies they were able to stuff in there! One kind of random thing that I was also really impressed by is the care they took to package everything. They cut holes in the spring roll box so they wouldn't get soggy and the chicken was wrapped up in a bag in case the sauce leaked. Little things like that just make me think they take more pride than the average place in what they do. Now I just have to figure out what to do with all of these leftovers! SO much food! I'm going to be forced to eat them and gain ten pounds!

I don't care for their food by any means- their rice is dry and undercooked every time i go there to eat with my boyfriend (or watch him eat...), they have a very small selection of beverages (none of which are decent enough to help me get thru the rice), and when they go on vacation for three weeks apparently the whole restaurant goes on vacation because they don't have anybody to hold down the fort or run the show while they're gone?

First couple times I went there the food was very good service was average, I even had food delivered a couple of times. This last time I had food delivered and it made me so sick, it has taken me about three days to fully recover. Sad to say I do not recommend this place.

My first visit here was 4-stars. This most recent visit was not so much. I ordered the broccoli beef again. Portion was generous but wow, it was salty. I also ordered a pork dish and it was also very salty. The next morning, my body was telling me that I was dehydrated from the salty food. The lady who took my order was very nice though. I hope that this was just a bad day for this restaurant. I want to give them a better review next time.

I love how plain the hunan chicken is, they don't fill it with filler vegetables which you then end up with almost no meat. It comes with mushrooms which I don't like but they are able to replace it with other options. I order take out almost every weekend and I just call them up and take the short walk and the food is always done in less than 10 minutes. My only issue with them is when you purchase something like general chicken, it has a lot of extra liquid that leaks in your bag and creates a mess but I guess you can't really help with something like that.

I have ordered take out a few times here but have never dined in. The building is definitely aged and could use a bit of an upgrade as a really deep cleaning. The first time I ordered from here it was the broccoli beef and the special friend rice. The broccoli and beef was pretty salty and I normally like salty food, it was a little off putting. On the other hand the friend rice was good but could use a little more seasoning...ironic. They give you plenty of food though! The second time I got take out from here I got the fried rice again and the sweet and sour pork. So much better than the broccoli beef! The pineapple and peppers were fresh and still crunchy as well as the breading on the pork. SO good. I also fell in love with the little almond cookies they give you in a ziplock baggy. I'll be back.

Pros: 1) Not Expensive 2) Large portions 3) Unique decor 4) Booths are seperated into private little areas enclosed by hanging beads 5) Entrance is on the bottom floor, then you have to walk up the stairs to the second floor where the restaurant is located. 6) Reminds me of a true downtown restaurant place in NYC or SF. 7) During our visit we got 2 free cookies and 2 free egg rolls. Cons: 1) Even though the decor is unique, when I was their the bottom "entrace" floor smelled like urine. In addition when we made our way to the top "restaurant" floor there was hardly any ventilation. It was very dirty and it felt like everything was very enclosed and sophicated. 2) Hardly any lighting 3) I ordered the KUNG PAO CHICKEN and that crap was NASTY! Even though they gave me a large portion, I did not finish it because it was not appetiting. 4) Girlfriend ordered a soup and it hardly had any flavor. Conclusion: *In my opinion, if you prefer quantity over quality then come here. Like my visit, you may just get ALOT of crappy ass food. I only went their once because it looked very apealing but after that one visit, I will never be returning their again. I think they knew the food they were going to give us was going to be crappy so they over compensated with large portions, cookies, and egg rolls. Tips: In my opinion, I did not like my food at all here. If you want to eat like a pig and over compensate the quality of food over quanity, then yes I may just go back. In the mean time... I am certainly staying away.

Went there for lunch today. This place is dirty. The tea arrived cold. Service was slow. When my food arrived, I found an eyelash in the food (and it wasn't mine). The owner/manager offered a "discount". I think that dish should have been removed altogether. I won't be going back there, and if you care about cleanliness I suggest you don't either.

Very happy with the food but dining-in is a bit interesting... it could definitely use a thorough cleaning and renovation, has a bit of a dark and dusty feel to it. Regardless, I was very happy with the food that I ordered. I'll probably do delivery/take out in the future instead though.

Just moved to the area and I googled restaurants. And this came up. Gave it a shot and im not disappointed. Delicious food and fast service what more can u want. The decor does look a little outdated but I think that's what might keep the food original and employees humble.

Interesting environment; they sectioned off an 2nd floor of an office building and made small dining cubbyholes. I like the more private dining experience. I had their house tea and pot-stickers before my main dish and they were both great. My Szechuan Shrimp dinner was fantastic. I will most definitely come back!

This place is hit or miss. Sometimes the food is hot and fresh and really good. And other times the shrimp are smelly and seem a bit old. I always order to go and the young hostess is very nice and accommodating. My favorite item on their menu is the green beans and shrimp. IT IS DELICIOUS!!! My second favorite is the vanilla prawns. It is sooooo unhealthy and good! But again, the biggest problem here is the inconsistency. Sometimes the vanilla prawns are hot and fresh, other times they are hard and little sauce.

Tonight we had the most amazing meal. My BF loves lemon chicken and he said it was the best he ever had, he sat there and dipped each piece in more of the lemon sauce. I had the Mongolian beef and it was as good as my Chinese ex-husband ever made. The green onions were just right with a lot of them, which I love! It was pricey, like twice what Panda Express charges, but there was so much leftover that there is enough for 2 more meals. Delicious!

We've actually ordered from Wing's quite a bit. It's probably the most decent Chinese food I've had around here, but not the best compared to stuff I've had elsewhere. If you're wanting generic Chinese (Americanized) food, then you probably won't be let down. Usually, the food tastes good. Some things we've ordered: Hot & Sour Soup Wonton Soup Mu Shu Pork/Chicken Dumplings Kung Pao Chicken Assorted Veggies and some others I'm forgetting. Our favorites are probably the soups, Mu Shu Pork and Assorted Veggies. There was a brief period when the soups suddenly got realllllly salty - blegh(!) - so we stopped ordering from them for a while. Then I got a craving and decided to risk it, and the soup was back to tasting good. I'm a little iffy on their seafood. One time the shrimp tasted...off. Not a fan of seafood that tastes off. So, I began asking for Hot & Sour Soup without the shrimp, which was fine because you usually only get a couple anyway. Really good serving sizes. We've only ordered delivery and it usually lasts 2-3 days. Fast delivery most days, occasionally there's a long wait because they're busy. Delivery guys have always been super nice and friendly, so I usually give them a good tip. From what I know, they don't do delivery before 5pm on weekdays, not sure about weekends.

Wow. I've had lots of Chinese food throughout my life and I have got to say this was probably some of the worst I've ever had. Large portions. Quickly prepared. Zero taste.

I love my hole in the wall Chinese food but this place is just yuckie. How does I Chinese place failed at making just decent fried rice???? What a waste of money and stomach space!

got my order wrong, charged me correctly, but half my food items were missing. called over and was told that i didn't get charged anything extra. errr, i called to get all my order in. so wings, screw your nasty phone etiquette and your inefficiency. if i want soggy and overly sweet I can buy frozen microwave crap. I'm not ordering from you ever again. over priced, WORSE than panda express and bad service to boot.

I haven't been here in a couple years, and holy crap has it taken a nose-dive. I ordered shrimp friend rice for pick-up and it is absolutely DISGUSTING. Large chunks of unincorporated white rice, barely any eggs, and the worst is it all tastes/feels like it's covered in some weird chalky, grainy substance. I'm considering bringing it back and asking for a refund. Ugh, another one bites the dust.

Had a thoroughly disappointing lunch. I used to eat here about 10 years ago and loved it. This time, nothing was done well. We were seated in some sort of overflow dining room that was dark and cold. Even though our waiter was in the room the entire time (because it's where they unpackage cookies and perform other tasks), he couldn't have been less interested in us. The utensils were noticeably dirty. The soup arrived cold with limp and soggy vegetables. The chow mien was burned. The Kung Pao chicken had the same sorry vegetables as the soup with unidentifiable chicken parts that certainly weren't breast or thigh or any part that could be recognized by a non-veterinarian. The only things that were even passable were the can of Coke and the almond cookie. Since Wing's was my idea, I apologized to my very non-picky dining partner and we agreed that my right to choose the restaurant was forfeited for one month. Old, dingy, smelly. Avoid. Ten years ago, I would have given them five stars.

Amazing food and a very competent kitchen staff. For vegans, I have found amazing demonstrations of culinary prowess by ordering off-menu and would highly recommend asking for an order of Kung Pao Tofu.

30x30 12 I am really going to miss the staff at Wings. Their delivery was always prompt...the food was always HOT and they are just so nice and friendly. I have not ordered anything I did not like from Wings. Again, this is your basic chinese food but I adore it because they deliver and are always happy to do so. I adore their potstickers, fried rice and ribs. All are delicious. Their portions are BIG...so you will have leftovers but that is never an issue with me. Just be sure not to microwave the leftovers...but really...that goes for ANY LEFTOVERS! If you are using the microwave...you are doing it WRONG. Stove top is ALWAYS best...unless it is a burrito ...then that is all about the oven or toaster oven if you have one ^_^ but...I digress ..... Mmm....Wings... please continue to rock the awesome service and food and I promise... I will eat when I visit.

This place has been a part of Japan Town for years now and they really deserve your business. This place isn't expensive and the portions are seriously huge. I ordered a takeout dinner box for one and it literally could have fed a family of 5. They do takeout, delivery, and it's also nice to eat there. They have these super chinese style separated booths for privacy. I really it. It's family run. The restaurant is on the second floor and the first floor does look a bit run down and smell a tad but this is a historical building so you need to expect that. And the hole in the wall places always have the best food. It's also true the chowmein isn't the best I've had. But it's great food, sure to impress your family and friends. The staff are the friendliest people. And you will leave sooo full and with a smile on your face for sure. Hidden gem right here. Take it for what it is. A family run chinese place. Not a gourmet steak restaurant. I have eaten in this restaurant so many times, and no matter who I take they always ask to go back with me so this place is doing something right.

We came here for a party of 12 after SJSU's graduation... Called and 15 minutes later was able to have a table ready for us. It's definitely a time warp when you walk in... definitely not the place to take someone on a date if you wanna impress them with the nice decor and then to have to walk up the flight of stairs (not disable friendly). I was hoping to see some Shaolins pop outta the booths or something! :P What we enjoyed: Fried rice Shrimp Potstickers Chinese chicken salad Kung pao Peking duck Chow mein Beef chow fun Hot and sour soup (first time having it with shrimp) Green beans We were all stuffed and satisfied! Fast, cheap and lots of food to feed us! To be honest, will I be back? Probably not... I'm being honest, it's somewhat outta the way for me and if I am in Japantown, I'd rather eat some sushi.

This place has been around for a long time from what I've heard/seen on local news channel. I usually do take out and it's decent to good Chinese food. I love the Hunan chicken, although like many of their other dishes, can be too salty and too saucy. Fried rice is delicious and the customer service is great. It's my go to for Chinese now that we've relocated to Japan Town.

Lemon Chicken... This rating is for their delectable Lemon Chicken. Served piping hot, the Lemon Chicken is a pure American creation. Clean, breaded, and under siege by thick sweet lemony syrup, Uhg! I'm torn by guilt and desire... guilt for desiring the massive pile of mouthwatering calories. Even now, as the flavor has left my palate, the lemony scent radiates from my clothing and I want more!

Quick version: - Bad service - Not even close to being authentic Chinese food - Food is cooked in heavy sauce, and all dishes tasted the same Detailed version: I'm actually surprised this place got more than 3 stars at the time of this review. I literally wanted to leave after getting seated. I should have trusted my instinct. The Chinese waiter who greeted us when we arrived asked how many we had in our party, and we first responded in English with, "four." He looked confused and asked again. So we thought he wasn't really fluent in English, so we repeated our count again, but this time in Cantonese. He then replied, "Oh, 7?" So I had to then tell him in English, "4," and showed him four fingers, and he understood. Strike one. The interior looked dirty and a bit run down too, but I'm not factoring that into my review since I've eaten at worse-looking places and the food was great. So we got seated and looked at the menu. It did not look appealing at all. The dishes were pretty much all the typical American-friendly dishes. They didn't really have any authentic Chinese dishes that you would usually find at most mom-and-pop Chinese restaurants, and the menu selection wasn't too vast. I don't know how to explain it, but you know that feeling you get when you just look at a menu and it suddenly made you lower your expectations on the restaurant? Yeah, I got that feeling. Strike two. When the same waiter came to take our order, we tried to order in Cantonese (hoping he just misheard us when we told him how many people we had before). Nope. He didn't understand again and stumbled on trying to repeat the first item. So we just ordered in English. I don't know if I'm expecting too much, but if you are Chinese and you work at a Chinese restaurant in the Bay Area, you should at least be able to know your own restaurant's menu items in Cantonese. Strike three. We put in our orders, and then wanted to get one more item, but weren't sure what to get. So we asked the waiter for a suggestion. He suggested an item and pointed to it on the menu (I forgot what it was). We asked what it was exactly and how it's cooked, he simply replied with, "It's (the menu item's name) with (the list of ingredients from the menu)." Umm yeah, we can read, and you didn't answer our question. We gave up and didn't order the extra item. Strike four. Okay, so far, we're pretty bummed and weren't expecting much. I think all our appetite's pretty much got squashed. We waited about 5 minutes, and then all the dishes came. 5 minutes! Something didn't seem right... Well, all the dishes pretty much looked and tasted the same. We had beef with snow peas, sweet and sour pork, broccoli chicken, and Mandarin chicken. They were all bathing in the same dark brown/red sauce, and there was a LOT of sauce on all the dishes! There was nothing unique about any of the dishes. They all tasted the same and weren't even good tasting. The white rice was actually the best "dish" (no kidding). And because of the heavy sauce, I filled my plate with rice to act as a sponge to soak up excess sauce before eating the entrees. Horrible food. I could steam vegetables and they would have tasted better than the food we ordered. Strike five. Oh, and the waiter never came back after taking our order to see how we were doing or how the food tasted. Strike six. I don't even think he asked us what we wanted to drink other than the tea that was included. Good thing we all were content with tea. Regardless, strike seven. I would never go back. Never. Never ever. If I were rich, I'd buy the restaurant and then shut it down.

I'm throwing wing's 5 stars because it's what I need and what I'm looking for! Let me explain... Wing's is in my neighborhood and is a great place to get great food, huge portions, quickly, at a decent price! I usually grab take out, but here are a few concerns others might have.. When I've eaten there it's clearly an older restaurant in an older building. I personally like the "authenticity" and the character but others may find it unmaintained. Also, the service is OK. I don't really expect a lot when I go to a restaurant like this. For me as long as they get my order correct and get it to me quickly I'm happy! However if you have really high expectations from the serving staff, this local Chinese restaurant will likely not meet them. Even with the cons I give them 5 stars. Again, its delicious, great portions, quick, and a price I can afford! I've been to a lot of Chinese places and they are usually all hit or miss, but I've always had a great experience with the food and the level of service I expect here!

I've been here a few times, even bought myself a take home birthday diner last year. The food is good, but after having gone this last time, I realize that despite the yummy food, the decor makes me think: The interior of the place is a tad, well... goose. When I walk into the place, I feel like the last time it's been cleaned, was probably in the 1980's but I can't be sure. It may have been longer than that even. That being the case, the food is freaking awesome, and delivery is spot on with timing, and customer service. The last delivery I got, was right before close, and the guy who delivered was really sweat about it!

We got there within a half hour of close on a Friday night. They were very kind to us. Took our order and gave us our food within 10 minutes. A feat considering we ordered nearly 10 dishes of food lol. Great food and great service.

The food is DELICIOUS the servings are huge i am talking to the top tray drenching with rice and chow mein and what ever other item you order. They are not stingy when it comes to packing this tray with food. The decor could use a touch up the stairs smell bad they need some major shampooing. But that does not stop me from going there every 3 days. I usually can not eat the whole order i end up saving some for the next day. The service is great always greet me with a smile and even know me y name now. =d Can not get enough of this place. If they served Hot wings like i had thought they did WING'S CHINESE =P I would probably eat there every day.

My boyfriend loves this place and if he were to write a review he would give it five starts. I come here pretty often and I must admit the food is delicious but the place itself makes me feel dirty. If this place were clean I wouldn't mind coming here at all. He is the only reason why I keep returning to this place.

omg! I love this Chinese restaurant!!! If it was up to me I would eat here everyday, but of course, that's not going to happen or I will end up being morbidly obese. It's a bit on the pricey side but I don't mind because the food is well worth it. The only problem might be is the restaurant itself. It has that strong old wooden smell. Well, it's old that's why....hahaha My best friend and I came here for the first time a year ago and we were surprised by the awkward lay out of the dining area. It was a very private seating arrangement with a button that we thought had no purpose. Out of curiosity we pushed that button and it turned out to be a service button. Of course we got yelled at by the person working at the back because we were pushing that button like there was no tomorrow. We honestly didn't mean to piss anyone off, especially in a Chinese restaurant, or any restaurant for that matter, you never know what they'll do to your food. Anyway, I love every dish on the menu. You can't go wrong with this spot! IT"S DELICIOUS!!!! FYI, the main problem you will encounter is parking!! It's located in a small main street of japan town.

The food was ok, I was hoping it was more authentic Chinese food since ours been around for so long. I only tried 3 items: Chinese chicken salad, Mongolian beef and vanilla prawns. I always try the chicken salad at new places because the place i used to go to is now closed and I can't find another place that makes chicken salad with a dry spicy mustard dressing. But any how, their salad was okay. Iceberg lettuce, red cabbage, fried won ton squares and fried chicken. The dressing was on the side, i believe it was soy sauce based, it was ok, not what i expected. But the best part was the fried chicken, it was lightly fried, still moist and had a nice crunch. I just wanted to eat a plate full of fried chicken pieces to eat like nuggets. The Mongolian beef was slightly on the sweet side to me. It was a really huge portion and there was a lot of beef, not like other places where it's filled with onions and fried noodles. It also had a mild spice. Most places says spicy but it had no spice. I eat super spicy food so most things taste like nothing when people say it's spicy. But this one you can taste a nice mild spice. The vanilla prawns were my favorite. This it's their version of honey walnut prawns. At first I was a little sad that when out came out it was battered. But when I ate it.... It was just as crispy as the chicken. It stayed crispy throughout the whole plate even though it was drenched in the sweet vanilla mayo.

The most mediocre Chinese food I've ever had is at Wing's. Not the worst, the food is not bad, just the most mediocre. We had the pork fried rice, broccoli beef and something else with chicken. I don't like to use the word "bland" because I think it's used too much on yelp, but I'm going to use it here. This food is bland and kind of boring. The service was fine and I liked the inside of the restaurant.

Extraordinarily BAD experience. On every level. Dirty. Poor service. Aggressive confrontational customers who verbally attacked us when we complained about the food to the arrogant wait staff who informed us "we've been making this food like this since 1925.." -- wow you've gotta be proud guys. You've not only been serving truly BAD food for ...uh 79 years...you've also NOT CLEANED ANYTHING since that time either!! We will NEVER go back. First of all the place is absolutely truly filthy. We should have listened to our first instincts and LEFT before ordering. But no. We soldiered on thinking that perhaps the food would be amazing despite the dingy dirty interior. Eternal optimists are we. The waiter was slow in coming to take our drink order. The menu was Boring Beyond Belief. . . this is the type of "chinese" food I would expect to see in the midwest. Yes, we were in Japantown and probably should have sought out Japanese food but I was with someone who really wanted Chinese and we'd heard most of the restaurants in Japantown were quite good. We live only a few blocks away and just had not tried Wings yet. We ordered Chinese Chicken Salad, hot/sour soup, shrimp with snow peas and white steamed rice. The food arrived within MOMENTS of ordering which is never a good sign. It was insipid in color, texture and flavor. The woman who put the food down (not our waiter who was morose and non-communicative at best) saw the way I looked at the food which was with a mild surprise - it looked remarkably unappetizing and asked in a challenging way, "is something WRONG??" I had tasted a bit of everything at that point and pointed to the PILE of chopped iceberg lettuce that had some fried battered miserable looking chicken dotted on the top and told her this was the least traditional Chinese chicken salad I'd ever seen..the hot/sour soup tasted like thickened chicken broth with a plethora of some sort of bitter powder (not white pepper believe me - no resemblance) .. the shrimp and snow peas appeared microwaved and tasteless. The "salad" came with a sticky bottle of refrigerated dressing that was slammed down onto the table. Oh, and the teapot had spatters of dried previously served (so it appeared) tea all over the outside of it. To top it off, as we sat there in the dingy miserable little booth trying to decide what to do NOW because we'd ordered and received "food" if we should just eat it and then pay and leave or what...the ....let's see what's the word...oh yeah, the THUG that was sitting just a table away from us with his girlfriend decided to loudly admonish us for complaining, telling us in a "I'm gonna break your face" sort of style that if we didn't the food we should LEAVE and that I was "ruining his dinner" and then told me in no uncertain terms to SHUT UP and leave....oh it was a stellar experience I can tell you. I told him as much as I dared (the guy looked like he was about come over and hit me) that I had a right to my opinion and he asked "if you don't it leave" and then said, "so GET OUT.." VERY NICE. So rather than choke down dreadful food in a bad atmosphere, we actually got up, paid the bill (I think we'd have been attacked if we'd walked out without paying) and left. I will NEVER go back to this place. I will make sure I tell ANYONE and EVERYONE who asks about places to go in Japantown that this is NOT ONE OF THEM....and it was honestly the worst dining experience we've had in YEARS (if ever) .. F+ on EVERY LEVEL AND ASPECT.

5 stars service if you speak chinese. Friendly as can be and even though I ordered way late at 8:30 the food came piping hot on the dot 9pm. 2 stars for the price. Totally overpriced... no ifs ands or buts about this one. 3.5 stars steamed dumpling (had a slight seafood flavor) 3 star crackling rice soup after adding water (1 star otherwise as it's inedible), 5 stars lemon chicken, delicious and a mountain's worth in portion. So I'm sick as a dog on finals week with the flu. Can't stomach normal foods and I miss mom's home cooking. My mom is a hell of a cook so anything compared to hers would fail miserably but I wanted chinese food of any kind so found the best delivery place for San Jose. Also note that again I am rating compared to food I find stateside. Rating compared to places I've eaten in Hong Kong or since I was a kid in Singapore is unrealistic and unfair as they have ingredients and products we don't have here. So first thing I noticed is that oh crap I got the steamed dumplings thinking they were buns. My mistake and not a big deal I was craving dumpling soup actually so this is close. On that note I definitely had to dilute the soup as it was salted and concentrated to oblivion. Which was not a bad thing necessarily as I needed some broth to last me over tomorrow. Also it was not bad and still well flavored when I added water but I know the premise of adding water to the food in order to make it palatable is a culinary travesty to many. The gripe I have flavor wise with the dumplings and the soup though is that the former had a seafoody taste and the later a sesame oil taste. Neither were necessary if they seasoned ala chinese home-cooked style. However the soup had much needed and appreciated veggies and the dumplings I inhaled out of realizing it was chinese food were overall decent. However the hero of the meal came not in the soup that I needed nor the dumplings that I craved but that junky delicious lemon chicken that I got on a whim. I had a headache, felt like crap, had zip appetite, yet one taste of it and my energy came back and I wanted MORE. It was not crispy and I'm not sure if it was supposed to be but the taste is SOLID. Trust me, even though this isn't real asian cooking and $27 is a lot to spend on one meal, that mountain of delicious lemon chicen was worth it. When you're sick spending money on something is worth it if it makes you feel better and I feel much better. Take that doctor's trip! I advise not to add $3 to get the rice if you have rice at home though that's a personal choice as I don't know if their rice is tasty and the fried variety. Anyways it's not mom's, face it NOTHING ever can be, but it's as close as I can get in the SJ area and that gets a good rating from me. It made me feel better when my own safe, home cooked foods failed me (I'm not that bad at cooking btw), so thanks for helping me out Wings.

This place looks exactly the same as my first visit over 35 years ago. Very basic, dark, private booths with beads for curtains, and the same old red and dirty wallpaper. Carpet looks bad and lots of dust on the booths. They've been here all these years but zero dollars of profits are used for remodeling or upkeep of any kind, but the food was ok though. My soup and lunch arrived at the same time, so by the time I finished my soup the food was getting cold. The waiter looked like he didn't want to be there, kind of moody actually. Not worth the trip unless you are on break from jury duty and happen to be in the area.

ordered take out so I can't speak to the service, although an offer of water or tea while I waited for my order would have been nice. the ambiance was great, dark, cozy and cool little beaded partitions so your booth is semi-private. the food was great, ordered oyster beef, garlic chicken (tasted like curry), peking ribs, vegetable chow mein and potstickers. for 40 bucks our family of 4 is getting at least two meals out of it. I was expecting the typical small chinese food takeout boxes, but they serve a big styrofoam square, I walked out of there with a cardboard box full of food people! I'm no expert on authentic chinese food taste, but this was good and they don't use msg and I would definitely come here again.

Not bad. I had a craving for Chinese food the other day, and my friend said he vaguely remembered a place in Jtown --- so away we went. Walking up the stairs to the actual restaurant was interesting -- kind of a differentttt feel. We were seated immediately in a "booth," which I really liked. It's like your own private portion of the restaurant (not really, but I liked the beads hanging over the doorway, and that they are like little alcoves. We weren't sure if we were supposed to ring the bell looking thing to be served, but eventually someone came to take our order. We ended up getting the "dinner special B" mostly out of indecisiveness. It came with crackling rice soup, egg fried rice, lemon chicken, sweet & sour spare ribs (they messed up and gave us sweet & sour chicken), and spring rolls. I was impressed with the crackling rice soup --I've never had it before and I loved watching the waitress put the rice into the soup. The texture of the rice with the soup was good, and I loved the flavoring of the broth. It also had a decent amount of vegetables in it (carrots, mushrooms, cabbage?)/ Tasty. Me/ my friend were both not impressed with the spring rolls -- jam packed with cabbage, so there wasn't too much of a flavoring. I appreciated a change due to eating so much chicken, but you're basically stuffing your mouth with cabbage, because there is sooooooooooooo much of it. It's also really hard to eat ...... The egg fried rice was egg fried rice... can't really say it was good or bad... The lemon chicken was decent. The sweet & sour chicken had a good flavoring as well -- normally I'm not too big of a fan of sweet & sour sauce, but it wasn't toooo overpowering like it can be. Overall the portions are really big, and the prices are decent considering it was about $12/person and equivalent to about 2 meals. I probably will be back when I have a craving for Chinese food :)

Chinese Cuisine

The popularity of Chinese food in America can be adjudicated by the appearance of China Town in many major cities in the United State of America. The popular trend of ordering or opting for Chinese take away food isn't unknown in America. Chinese take away food comes to rescue when you're too tired from work or too exhausted to cook. No one can resist the temptation of eating spicy noodles, shrimp, chicken, beef or pork cooked in the sweet and spicy sauce. The cooking method of authentic Chinese food is a lot different compared to what is served in America.

Generally, Chinese use dark meat small bones and organs to cook dishes but this changes when you are eating American-Chinese fusion food prepared using white boneless meat cooked with broccoli, carrots and onions. Back in China, the food is less spicy and oily as they favor steaming and braising method for cooking the most popular dishes. So, if you have a taste for authentic Chinese food, then try finding a real Chinese restaurant in the city. You can also try the most popular fusion Chinese food like Pecking Duck, Chicken Feet, Hot Pot, Shrimp Dumpling Soup, Mapo Tofu, Wontons, Chop Suey, Egg Rolls and not to forget Fortune Cookies.

There are not many restaurants in America serving authentic Chinese food. A little research on Restaurant Listings directory can help you locate the best Chinese restaurants in the city. Chinese cuisine is continuously evolving, and you can find a variety of dishes categorized as the food for lactose intolerant, gluten intolerant, vegan, vegetarian, and diabetic friendly. So, if you have a group of friends with different taste patterns, save the hassle and visit the nearest Chinese restaurant in your city.
